Purpose

I have started this page in order to describe the detail of the creation and first build of the Caledonian Railway.

This runs to over 33,000 bytes, and only gets the history as far as 1850. If this had been incorporated in the main Caledonian Railway article it would have overpowered a lot of other information (later history, other routes, etc). I considered inserting this material in to the Caledonian Main Line article but that is more configuration dominated and is unsuitable for this content.

I propose to link this page from those articles, with a brief summary in the main article (for those who do not wish to pursue all the detail).
