Talk:History of ITV television idents

What has happened to this page's screenshots? Trixovator 10:12, 21 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

They were removed as part of a articles for deletion decision, because the large number of images violate Wikipedia's fair use policy. Essentially, we should use as few fair use images as we can to illustrate the text to keep within the US laws Wikipedia needs to abide by. See here for more information: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/ITV Idents and Presentation. --tgheretford (talk) 11:13, 21 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
The page still reads as captions - shouldn't it be cleaned up? Trixovator 20:24, 22 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
Oh, it's been cleaned up. My mistake. Trixovator 20:25, 22 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

ITV2

edit

ITV2 has had five logos, not two! The first one (1998-2001) was a purple two above the ITV logo. Then there was one identical to ITV1's, with the yellow box with a 2 instead of a 1 in it. That was changed to a bevelled version, but was shortlived because the inverted logo was introduced. That was replaced with the current green logo. Digifiend

Fair use rationale for Image:ITV1logo06.gif

edit

Image:ITV1logo06.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

The image Image:ITV2 logo.png is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.

The following images also have this problem:

Intricate detail

edit

To be quite honest the lists of specific idents used on the 2006 plus looks is too far. Someone might get away with it if there were only a few but there are so many that it's just messy and is not in Wikipedia's tone. Rafmarham (talk) 22:23, 14 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Also there are too many (for the want of a kinder expression) 'ident geeks' using this page to indulge their interest and express personal opinions; for example describing a set of LWT idents as 'their worst idents ever'. Smurfmeister (talk) 18:08, 25 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

edit

Due to the extensive vandalism/edit warring that's taken place on this article since last September, I've protected it for 6 months against edits by non-autoconfirmed users (mainly IPs). Apologies to any good-faith IP editors here: for the time being you'll have to submit your requested changes on this page and wait for another editor to make them for you. Make sure you include references to reliable sources!

There's a huge quantity of uncited information in this article - it would be good if editors with an interest in this topic could take this opportunity to clean it up. I cannot check how many of these idents are valid or accurately described because there are no references for me to go and check. Our verifiability policy says that if there is no publicly-available reliable source we cannot include the information, so it may be that a lot of the content here should be removed.
