Changes edit

Recently added a lot of material to this reasonably new page. Please take a look, and tell me how to improve this article. Some improvements are obvious - more photos, drawings, etc., are needed. Some sections need a few more details added, especially 'Gaelic Resurgence', 'The 1798 Rebellion' and '19th Century to Present'. Other sections are reasonably complete.

Clean up edit

The clean up tag is specifically referring to the excessive amount of internal linking. Please reduce the redundant links, and only link to relevant and important terms. Thanks.-Andrew c [talk] 11:49, 29 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Here are some tips. WP:AWB has a feature that points out redundant links. There are not many circumstances where a word should be wikilinked more than once in a section (take "viking" as one example). Also, per MOS:UNLINKYEARS, years should almost never be linked. Thanks for working on clearing up this issue! I appreciate the effort.-Andrew c [talk] 01:21, 30 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

I have removed the 'cleanup' tag as I have removed a huge number of unnecessary links, as you requested. Please check again to see if anyhing else needs fixing. Dneale52 (talk) 02:20, 30 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Since you are a primary editor to this article, and relatively new, I'd ask that you kindly not remove the clean up tag again until a third party agrees to remove it, or if there is consensus between us here on talk to remove it. As you can see, there was still a ton of work to do. I have done the years, and I started going through the redundant wikilinks A through B (we still have C through Z to do). On top of the redundant links, there are some basic terms that shouldn't be linked, like English and Europe and such. For the Bibliography section, the authors should be last name first, and all the entries alphabetized. Quotes should be used for the titles of short works (articles, essays, etc) while italics should be used for longer works (books, collections), but quotes and italics should not be used together. WP:CITE has more info. Basically, you should choose a style guide (such as MLA or Harvard) and be consistent throughout. Adding ISBN numbers can be helpful. Perhaps look at a featured article, for an example could help. I'll try to help the clean up over the next few days, and I'm sure we can bring this article up to better standards with a bit of collaborative work!-Andrew c [talk] 03:24, 30 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
Great work. I've cleaned up a bit more, and removed the tag. It isn't perfect, but it doesn't deserve a bit header tag anymore. Keep up the good work.-Andrew c [talk] 02:42, 2 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

20th Century to Present - Recent changes edit

This period has now been updated, but because of its large size, much of it has been moved to a new page titled County Wexford (1914-1923). The main points of this period have been summarized and a link to the new page created on this page. Dneale52 (talk) 08:53, 11 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Image copyright problem with Image:John Redmond.jpg edit

The image Image:John Redmond.jpg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.

File:Templarsign.jpg Nominated for speedy Deletion edit

An image used in this article, File:Templarsign.jpg, has been nominated for speedy deletion at Wikimedia Commons for the following reason: Copyright violations
What should I do?

Don't panic; deletions can take a little longer at Commons than they do on Wikipedia. This gives you an opportunity to contest the deletion (although please review Commons guidelines before doing so). The best way to contest this form of deletion is by posting on the image talk page.

  • If the image is non-free then you may need to upload it to Wikipedia (Commons does not allow fair use)
  • If the image isn't freely licensed and there is no fair use rationale then it cannot be uploaded or used.
  • If the image has already been deleted you may want to try Commons Undeletion Request

Rated as start-class. It's a very good article, and in many ways it exceeds good article standard, but its coverage of the 20th century is too weak. This leaves the article unbalanced, which would have to be corrected before it meets B-class criteria. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 04:16, 4 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for rating the page and for your comments and suggestions. I will try to improve the 20th century period and submit for re-assessment. Dneale52 (talk) 22:42, 4 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
I have now uprated the article to B-class; the twentieth century is now well-covered.
This is an exceptionally-comprehensive local history article, and it seems to me that there is more than enough material in this article to allow you to bring it to featured article standard, and I hope you feel able to take the next steps to bringing it there. I have a few suggestions which may help if you want to take it in that direction.
The main problem I see is that the article as it stands is too simply long. It may need splitting, but before considering that, I suggest that the first step should be to do some fairly heavy copy-editing. I know that may sound like a horrible prospect when so much work has been put into it, but I'm not suggesting dumping whole sections or anything, just to concentrate more on the things which actually relate to Wexford and are not covered in other articles. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 18:46, 10 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the suggestions for improvements, as input from others has been needed. A small amount of 20th century material could still probably be added and the addition of a few images/photos could help space the text - though difficult to obtain! However, the length of the page has been a worry. It is possible that I could remove some text from the 20th Century period that doesn't refer specifically to Co. Wexford, as you suggested. Also maybe some material could be moved to other pages and linked to this one or moved to a new page and linked - the 1798 Rebellion section is one section that I kept short as it could easily have grown too large - it has a page of its own anyhow. There are also one or two other possibilities. Basically, I will keep working on it. I will try make the changes and get back to you or if you look at the page from time to time leave a note and I will try and make the improvements. Thanks. That's great. Good luck! --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 14:12, 11 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
The page is now 73 kilobytes long and just under 9,000 words in length (Prose - excluding refs., links, etc.). I had to create a new page titled 'County Wexford (1914-1923)'. I have made some other changes also - like adding footnotes and sources to scroll boxes. Can you have a look and tell me if the page is still too long or what other changes need to be made. I can delete further text possibly, but it will be difficult. Dneale52 (talk) 18:34, 11 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
