The radio thing is absolutely true ¨hipolito o el diablo; quien prefiere tu?¨, and the devil one by a thick margin. the inflation thing is also true (17 pesos for a dollar in 2000 (before he entered power) 56 pesos for a dollar in 2003 (a year before he left power)). the funny thing is there exist a law in this country, if you disrespect a public officials or any public persons individual image, it can be MUCH easier to sue them, where "if you disrespect someone" and have no static evidence, you can be found guilty. only its hard to figure because if they were demanded through court it would be through civil court. anyways what i do know is hipolito arrested the two DJ's (only for a short time) "for disrespectfulness" on some old law. my advice is; because the wiki people are sensitive about being impartial (and neutral) and dont get me wrong, its a correct way to be. theyre should be an area where all the bank stuff "devil" stuff, and inflation stuff should be put in "Reasons for Decrease of popularity among masses and aftermath of Presidency" because to not talk about this would be grossely avoiding the apparent, in a impartial matter this should be added. just to briefly hold the pulse of the population and say reasons why the decrease in his popularity (quirino paulino, baninter, pepe goico) in a very impartial way (just saying the facts). someone should do this!

Is the below sentence vandalized or POV? Or is this just a section needing more explanation. It would seem either someone doesn't like the current president, Fernandez, or the radio station chose to conduct a poll giving the people the oppurtunity of electing the Devil or Mejia. This section definitely needs some sort of rewrite to explain exactly what happened or to remove the POV present - or simply remove the vandalism. (Not sure how to contest this, so I'm removing from the main page until someone corrects the problem.)

Ironically, when Hipolito was elected, Balaguer was seen as the bad guy...and I remember everyone saying Tranquilo sin Danilo. LOL. I put an NPOV-section tag on some of this, since it seems a bit biased.

This Article has a violation of content, because used spanish badwords in the content. Wikipedia Should Lock it or maybe close it, because of there are sections were he is criticized without sources.

Though it sounds crazy, the radio poll bit is 100% true. Everything in these statements are true, in fact. Actually, the part about peso inflation is generous; it went from 17 to 55 (over 50%)

- I live in the Dominican Republic and yes, as crazy as that sounds, the president's popularity at the time was so low that he lost a radio poll against the devil, not only that, but he didn't even get the 30% of the votes(votation ended with 14 votes against 2), and the journalists that handled the poll were sent to jail for 3 days.

I revised the whole document and everything said is true, and its not biased at all, although it lacks a bit of detail, which I'm planning to add soon.

Adding to the above confirmation:

I was living in de Dominican Republic during the government of Mejía and the elections of 2004 as well and can also confirm that the described situation in the article is 100% accurate, including the radio poll. However I miss the details in this article about how Hipolito Mejía attempted to steal the 2004 elections and had to be forced by the US ambassador and a roman catholic leader to acknowledge his defeat.

The rumor is totally wrong. I have lived in the Dominican Republic all my life, and Hipólito Mejía, after losing in the 2004, admitted immediately his defeat: No external pressure was thus needed for him to admit his defeat.

Correction:

Hipólito Mejía's regime DID planned to stay in power even in the face of electoral defeat.

Wikipedia is based on QUOTED INFORMATION, and based on that, here's a quote from a reputed professional newspaper, citing the then Dominican Secretary of the Armed Forces:

"hubo riesgo de un estallido social...debido a que grupos armados pretendían desconocer los resultados de las elecciones"

"there was a risk of a social outbreak... in lieu of armed [forces] groups that pretended to ignore the electoral ballot's outcome"

Misinformed statement
