Talk:High Sheriff of Derbyshire

This article is improving well, it was only a little stub last year. Not only that but it is identifying the major players in Derbyshire history. Victuallers (talk) 10:03, 10 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

As I've been pointing out in various places - if you look at High Sheriff of Cheshire I've found the London Gazette announcements of appointments for virtually every year back to 1840 (plus 1834), so these can be used to fill out the names across all the shrievalties (except Cornwall, and those in the gift of the Duchy of Lancaster which are of course announced separately). To find more, just go to http://www.gazettes-online.co.uk/AdvancedSearch.aspx?geotype=London enter sheriffs and use the dates to restrict your search, going from January to May of a given year usually seems to reduce the hits to manageable proportions. Correct Title ? / Intro

edit

Should this article not describe what the "High Sheriff of Derbyshire" is as part of the lead section/header or be renamed to" List of former High Sherriffs of Derbyshire" and have an article actualy on the post of the High Sheriff in Derbyshire with the history ? - Just a thought as its a bit ambiguas as i folled a link expecting to find out about the role and not a list of past ocupants of the post. - BulldozerD11 (talk) 20:37, 28 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Well, the duties don't vary that much from county to county, so High Sheriff is probably your best bet for that. It would be nice to discuss, on each "High Sheriff of X" article, notable achievements by the incumbents (calling out the posse against Jacobites, etc.), but that's hard to do right now, simply because the lists are most complete during the periods when the Sheriffs had minimal duties. Perhaps a summary of the article and then at the top of the page of each ? - BulldozerD11 (talk) 23:16, 28 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
A numbe rof the county articles do have a more-or-less standard intro, with a link to High Sheriff, take a look round some of the other articles usign the navbox, and you'll get an idea of the other approaches that have been taken. David Underdown (talk) 10:09, 29 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Anthony Babington 1534-1535

edit

this link to another Wikipedia Page for Anthony Babington is not the same Anthony Babington who was the Sheriff in 1534-1534.

the Anthony Babington the link goes to was born in 1561 & died in 1586 - his ancestor was the Sheriff

I know this, because they were both my ancestors. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Chrissie1710 (talkcontribs) 14:07, 5 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
