Can anyone tell me if 'Mildred Pierce' has anything in common with 'Tacones Lejanos', I have really found a lot of similarities regarding the relation mother-daughter, film-noir style, a murder related to that relation, testimonies... etc. If somebody knows any direct reference to what I am asking?172.200.107.3 23:54, 25 January 2007 (UTC)PatxiReply

Luz Casal

edit

Miguelemejia, you refer to Luz Casal as Luz in the article, mentioning that she is famous in Spain. If she is so famous that she is refered to by the name Luz alone, she should be refered to as 'Luz' in quotation marks to indicate that this is what she is actually called. If she is not called 'Luz' then the article should refer to har as either Casal or Luz Casal, but not simply Luz. Thanks.Kjaer (talk) 21:56, 15 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

My mistake, her name is of course Luz Casal. After her great success with her songs for High Heels, she refused good offers to switch to sing boleros. She also sang a song for the film The Sea Inside --Miguelemejia (talk) 22:34, 15 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Interpretative tour de force

edit

This looks like a false friend-based mistake. "Interpretar" means to interpret, to explain, and to act a part in Spanish. The latter meaning seems to fit the context, but of course "interpretative" does not usually have that meaning in English. (I suppose one might argue that it could or should, but that would be a pretty pretentious use of the word.)137.205.100.185 (talk) 12:46, 30 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

I simply removed the word.-My, oh my! (Mushy Yank) 21:23, 4 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Comparisons to Autumn Sonata, Imitation of Lie, Mildred Pierce, Stella Dallas, etc?

edit

Does anyone else find that the critics that made unfavorable comparisons to Autumn Sonata, Imitation of Life, Mildred Pierce, Stella Dallas, etc, completely misunderstand Almodovar?

Tacones Lejanos/High Heels is the blackest of black humor parodying those films. Consider Becky's advice to Rebeca, after she confessed to killing two of Becky's lovers, to "find more constructive ways to deal with your issues with men." (I believe that it was something like, "Hija mia, tienes que encontrar otro metodo de resolver tus problemas con los hombres.") Or Becky giving Letal one of her earrings as a keepsake and then asking for a prosthetic breast in return! Or the way Isabel, the sign language interpreter, points to Rebeca as she interprets Rebeca's on camera confession, which the director tells the cameramen not to dare cut off! That's pure satire!

Yet we get reviews like "Angel Fernandez Santos, in El País, concluded that, in comparison with Douglas Sirk's Imitation of Life (1959), which he regarded as an Everest, High Heels was a mere hill." That's like comparing "Ben Hur" to "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum"! Ariadne000 (talk) 00:25, 2 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
