Heswall Hills station edit

Heswall railway station was once known as Heswall Hills (to distinguish it from Heswall's other station on the West Kirby-Hooton line, which closed in 1962). However, after the other one was closed, the remaining station was subsequently renamed Heswall. It appears as such on railway maps, timetables, etc. --RFBailey 10:01, 23 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Cleaver Sanatorium edit

There seems to be some mix up between the Cleaver Sanatorium/Hospital in Oldfield Road and the Children's Hospital in Telegraph Road. I suggest the following to rectify the matter but I haven't got the time or resources at the moment to verify.

The Cleaver Sanatorium (in Oldfield Road) opened in 1903 for children suffering from tuberculosis. The Sanatorium was well known for having no windows in the wards as it was believed at the time that this would help cure the ill children of the disease. Part of the buildings are still in use as a nursing home although a considerable part of the site has new houses called Oldfiled Gardens.

In addition to the Cleaver Sanatorium a new hospital was built in 1909 for the Liverpool Country Hospital for Children to move to. It was renamed to the Royal Liverpool Country Hospital for Children soon after and in 1948 it was taken over by the NHS. The hospital's paedriatic services transferred to Alder Hay in 1985 when it closed and was demolished in 1989. It stood on the opposite side of Telegraph Road from the Puddydale, it had a tall square clock tower and extensive grounds with views over the Dee estuary. The former hospital site is now occupied by a Tesco supermarket, with the original Hospital clock incorporated within the building.

CONFLICT on date of Sir Paul's mother's death. edit

The article about Heswell says, in "Resident connections":

   * Paul McCartney bought his mum a house in heswall where she
lived until 1994, the house has since been sold

The article about Sir Paul's parents, "Jim and Mary McCartney", says his mother died October 31, 1956. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.172.117.38 (talk) 04:36, 8 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

I've removed it. Perhaps it is time to do another sweep of the claims and rfemove unverified ones (as I did before).  DDStretch  (talk) 06:46, 8 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Geography edit

There is no way you can drive from Heswall to Liverpool in 20 minutes. Not if you stick to the speed limits. Look at this link http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&geocode=11577521629047109392,53.328500,-3.099120&saddr=B5138%2FPensby+Rd+%4053.328500,+-3.099120&daddr=liverpool&mra=cc&dirflg=h&doflg=ptm&sll=53.369708,-3.038235&sspn=0.090438,0.260239&ie=UTF8&z=13

Google Maps says 26 minutes and thats not allowing for traffic. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.5.71.126 (talk) 19:32, 28 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

image edit

It would be nice to get a better image of Heswall. The picture shown does not represent some of the beauty you can see in Heswall, such as Heswall Beach, or Telegraph road up by the bowling green and library looking towards the town centre. Does anyone have such an image they could replace the current one with? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mercury1979 (talkcontribs) 18:53, 17 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Proposed merge with Heswall Primary School edit

Primary schools are not usually independently notable, and I don't see anything to suggest that this one is. Better covered on the locality's page. Tacyarg (talk) 20:47, 17 March 2019 (UTC)Reply
