Talk:Hero Parade

Numbers edit

The estimate of 300,000 attendees is highly improbable. That would be several times more than would attend the next most popular public events. And it is unlikely that a minority (fringe) event like a homosexual parade would be by far the most popular public event in Auckland. Are there any independent statistics on numbers? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.197.15.138 (talk) 05:06, 17 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

It's not an independent source, but I've added one which claims that police figures were 200,000. Because this relates to 1996, which is before most news sources put stories online, it would be necessary to go to print/microfiche versions of the New Zealand Herald or similar to find an independent source.
While the marchers are an arguably "fringe" group, the spectators are a broader part of the population. Lots of people go for the raw sexuality of the event.-gadfium 05:34, 17 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
