The revolution "inherited"....

Juan de las Cuevas Toraya, ( Juan de las Cuevas Toraya, 500 años de contrucciones en Cuba, p. 345. Havana, 2001, Servicios Gráficos y Editoriales, S.L.) "Hospital Hermanos Ameijeiras. En el año 1959 la Revolución "heredó" un edificio a medio construir..." From a Castro speech: "When the revolution triumphed, the building was on its foundations, perhaps the first or second floor." this statement is contradicted by eye witness account: This magnificent school was converted into a barracks...they took us out of there to turn it into the Antonio Maceo military school. ref. http://www.cubaenelmundo.com/Articulos/casanas/casanas30.htm. Both statements cannot be true. When was La Casa de Beneficencia y Maternidad demolished? 1962?

"La Casa de Beneficencia fue eliminada del contexto histórico de nuestro país en el año 1962, porque esa “revolución” eliminó el mal con su varita mágica a solo tres años de existencia." (http://baracuteycubano.blogspot.com/2007/06/la-casa-de-beneficiencia-y-maternidad.html), then, Batista could not have demolished La Casa de Beneficencia in "the 1950s" or have built two floors of the "bank building" for the revolution to have inherited?!? What is the real story behind this hospital? "When the revolution triumphed, the building was on its foundations, perhaps the first or second floor." (Castro speech) Perhaps he is mistaken for they had to clear everyone from the building, demolish the building, clear the site, build the foundation and 2 stories in 10 months.This photo from late Feb. 1958.

Following on the 1962 post and as evidenced by this photo from Jan 1959 Castro's Ameijeiras speech could not have been accurate. According to Fidel Castro "When the Revolution triumphed, it was (the new bank building) in the foundations, perhaps on the first or second floors.""Discurso pronunciado por el Comandante en Jefe Fidel Castro Ruz, Primer Secretario del Comité Central del Partido Comunista de Cuba y Presidente de los Consejos de Estado y de Ministros, en el acto de inauguración del hospital clínicoquirúrgico de Centro Habana, el 3 de diciembre de 1982, "Año 24 de la Revolución"".
