Contention of US claim

If the Alaskan Legislature says there is a legitimate claim and the State Department says that any claims that might exist were not settled in the 1990 agreement why does this not qualify as a dispute? Alaska is one of the fifty states and as such is not playing around when it says that there is a very legitimate claim of the U.S. to the island.CharlesRobertCountofNesselrode 13:28, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

The State Department also says that there were no claims to settle, because there has never been a US claim. A resolution of the Alaska Senate in 1988 does not mean that the State of Alaska consistently claims ownership, either; the Alaska Supreme Court has ruled that the island is not part of Alaska, and there seems to be no evidence of any ongoing claim. A resolution is basically a non-binding statement of support. --Reuben 15:20, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

one possibility which has been discussed is that they died of carbon monoxide poisoning due to a malfunctioning stove used in a tent.Dankarl (talk) 03:20, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
