Heracleum sosnowskyi is listed as an unresolved name by The Plant List, not as an accepted species. The article should reflect this, and needs to specify what the alleged distinction is between H. sosnowskyi and other closely related species such as H. mantegazzianum.Plantsurfer 22:14, 30 July 2018 (UTC)
- I completely agree, but I am no botanist at all and unfamiliar with The Plant List; does it have any authority in this matter? What would be an authoritative source? Googling brought up the following; are they good sources?
- * https://www.cabi.org/isc/datasheet/108958, which says the two are close, but distinguishable by specialists. It says some botanists argue they are too close to be counted as separate species, but I've done enough Wikipedia reading (e.g. on Brassica and Prunus) to know that species distinctions are often man-made and arbitrary.
- * https://doi.org/10.1111/j.1365-2338.2009.02313.x a.k.a. https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1111/j.1365-2338.2009.02313.x counts as a publication, I suppose, and it provides extensive descriptions, but also remarks: several botanists consider H. sosnowskyi only a subtaxon of H. mantegazzianum or H. pubescens. I think this is sufficient as a source, but I'm too lazy to rewrite the article right now ... feel free ;) Rp (talk) 19:38, 1 August 2018 (UTC)
