Notability edit

The currently provided citations are insufficient for meeting WP:GNG. Citations 1 and 2 are primary source baptism and census documents, and based on context citation 5 appears to be an article written by Rope himself. Citation 4 is likely non-independent, leaving citation 3 as the only cited source that has any likelihood of being significant, secondary and independent. Based on its publication date, it is likely an obituary, and as it was published in Venerable, a magazine that Rope contributed to, it is possibly not independent either. signed, Rosguill talk 20:35, 18 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Note: Rope has a very brief entry in Contemporary Authors, vol. 103 (p. 436) and in New Catholic Encyclopedia vol. 15 (p. 115), the latter in a list of contributors to the encyclopedia. These entries merely state he was a Roman Catholic Priest, poet, author of some nonfiction books, and provide birth and death dates. These alone don't constitute significant coverage requirement WP:GNG, but he has books in several libraries per WorldCat, and it is possible there are obituaries or sources somewhere that discuss his works and life at greater length, which might contribute towards WP:AUTHOR. Such third party sources are urgently needed however, as notability requires verifiable evidence. --Animalparty! (talk) 00:40, 19 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

When Rope died aged 97 all of his notable contemporaries who knew his eminence, such as Hilaire Belloc, G.K.Chesterton, Benedict Williamson, John Hawes, who might have written his obituary had pre-deceased him. Likewise, as an ultra-traditionalist, by the time he died his time had long since passed and no obit exists in a significant journal. However, his significance within Catholic circles in his time was substantial.

Improvements edit

I am working to reinforce the validity of this article. The article is no longer an orphan and it is now supplied with multiple references. I am focusing on the complaint about significance. In the past (with other articles) I have been accused of plagiarism when I quoted too closely from sources. Now I have absorbed research and rewritten it in my own words I am accused of inadequate citation! Sometimes I feel that on Wikipedia you just can't win. Anyway, this morning I have been adding multiple references and will endeavour to convince the powers that be of the importance of this subject. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pangapilot (talkcontribs) 12:11, 19 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
