"Leader of the opposition" edit

There is no such office as "leader of the opposition" in Denmark. The opposition parties do not have a common "leader". She was the leader of the largest opposition party (the Social Democrats), which is already included in the info box. Also, Lars Løkke Rasmussen is not her "successor" as "leader of the opposition", he is the Prime Minister of Denmark. There is no new Prime Minister until the Queen dismisses him and appoints someone else. Jensjrn (talk) 01:58, 16 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Deputy edit

Hoping to at least slow down the revert-warring here regarding the position as deputy prime minister: There is no such title. For one source clearly showing that the position doesn't exist, see the list of ministers at the website of the Ministry of State (it is currently used to support the opposite statement in a blatant misrepresentation of its contents). For the royal resolution announcing all new ministers, see [1]. A source can't get more official than that and it should settle this once and for all. 93.167.80.125 (talk) 18:49, 4 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Image edit

There is an ongoing effort to replace File:Thorning-Schmidt.jpg, a 2010 image that shows how she looks in 2011 (hair, age) and shows her face from the front, with File:Helle-Thorning-Schmidt.jpg, which has her looking over the camera, has hair in her face/does not show her current look, and is much older (2008). I should we keep the first version for the reasons outlined above. Hekerui (talk) 17:11, 5 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

I prefer File:Thorning-Schmidt.jpg because it is clearer. On my display the other photo looks washed out. I don't think 2 years of difference is that substantial and hair styles can change from day to day. They are both of reasonable photographic quality though. It is well known among photographers, that you don't take a photo from a frog perspective. It doesn't do anyone justice. Stick with File:Thorning-Schmidt.jpg. Carstensen (talk) 02:57, 6 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Sorry I meant this picture, the current one. Yes it is much better and more flattering and since it is the more recent it should be retained. Perhaps we should nominate the other for deletion and put it to rest. Obotlig (talk) 06:12, 6 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
See [2] if interested. Obotlig (talk) 07:45, 6 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
Well that was... interesting. Commons has its own rules about redundant or superceded photos and the photographer was extremely offended at my suggestion that his was not as good as the other. I guess it makes sense to keep everything but I get the feeling they are very territorial over in the... commons. At any rate I fully agree with retaining the better photo and watcjing for attempts to replace the old one. Obotlig (talk) 03:50, 7 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Tax Case Controversy edit

The chapter regarding the tax case controversy is misleading when the Tax Case commission and the case regarding undue influence by Troels Lund Poulsen and Peter Arnfeldt isn't included. Since the attempts to address the details regarding the case keeps getting reverted out of the article, the whole chapter has now been removed so that the article isn't untruthful regarding the full circumstances regarding the case. Perhaps the case can be summarised in a new article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.226.178.140 (talk) 14:33, 8 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Need for update edit

As the article has risen to the fourth most popular in WikiProject Denmark since the election with over 150,000 page views in October, I have tried to tidy it up a bit and add some missing references. I hesitate to alter the content too much but it seems to me that parts of the "Leader of the Social Democrats in opposition" section have now become irrelevant and should either be rewritten or simply deleted. I also think it would be useful to add something on HTS's actions since becoming prime minister, for example her decision to relax the border regulations and her statements regarding the difficulty of executing some of the election promises as a result of insufficient funds, etc. Any volunteers for edits along these lines? Or any reactions? - Ipigott (talk) 16:09, 24 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Don't panic; deletions can take a little longer at Commons than they do on Wikipedia. This gives you an opportunity to contest the deletion (although please review Commons guidelines before doing so). The best way to contest this form of deletion is by posting on the image talk page.

  • If the image is non-free then you may need to upload it to Wikipedia (Commons does not allow fair use)

Removal of trivia edit

I removed a section about her taking a "selfie" at Nelson Mandela's memorial service. Apparently it happened, but I'm not convinced it's anything but trivial. Paul MacDermott (talk) 22:52, 10 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

It is in a lot of major news sources, and the seat switching of Obama at the same event that is frequently being reported along with the selfie is important too. 198.151.130.65 (talk) 06:40, 11 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
I subscribe to thepaperboy.com which delivers a daily email with the morning's front pages. Apart from the tabloids, in the UK, The Telegraph and The Times have a shot of it on their front pages. The entry we had before was critical of her actions which is one of the reasons I removed it, but if this becomes a political scandal and she gets a lot of criticism then we can mention it. I wouldn't give it a section of its own though unless there is a lot to say about it, but perhaps a mention under something like criticism. Paul MacDermott (talk) 12:51, 11 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
My understanding (and I'm no expert) is that most of the criticism is based on the smiles and laughter at what some people are regarding as an important and solemn funeral. But apparently this "memorial service" was a bit more like an Irish wake - there was singing and dancing, and that's the custom in South Africia. RenniePet (talk) 13:03, 11 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
I think that seems like a fair assessment of the situation. Paul MacDermott (talk) 13:21, 11 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
It is not necessarily criticism or scandalous. Just something notable that happened based on the sources. 198.151.130.65 (talk) 20:49, 11 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Someone's added this, but as it's been done neutrally then it can stay. I'm still not convinced of its importance though. Paul MacDermott (talk) 18:17, 13 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
