ionasii vs. ionasi edit

Upon examining Maguire's description, and having looked at the type specimens at Kew Herbarium (as of today), I can confirm that the spelling with only one -i is the correct one; it may read unpleasantly in English, but in botanical terms, the name is fine, declined correctly, and the spelling ionasii invalid. ionasii vs. ionasi 2 edit

The footnote about the spelling of the epithet seems to be based on the assumption that specific epithets cannot be corrected, but they can. The International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants explicitly allows for this: https://www.iapt-taxon.org/nomen/pages/main/art_60.html. The fact that the original author spelled the epithet ionasi (apparently thinking that Jonah is "Ionasus" in Latin?!) is of little importance. Whatever the correct spelling of the epithet is, the footnote makes no sense. 2001:980:23AB:1:BCD1:EC12:E57F:D646 (talk) 13:09, 21 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
