Talk:Heimdal (crater)

My guess is that the eponym is Heimdal, not Heimdal, Hedmark. --79.161.18.215 (talk) 00:36, 18 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

The statement is put into question. My guess is Heimdall the Norse god, since planetary features more often are named according to mythology than existant towns. Rursus dixit. (mbork3!) 07:55, 7 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Wrong name edit

The source claims the name of the crater is Heimdall, not Heimdal. That makes an important difference indeed! Rursus dixit. (mbork3!) 07:55, 7 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Both the APOD and the Arvidson sources appear to be in error. According to the USGS Gazetteer of Planetary Names, the IAU approved name is Heimdal, after the town in Norway.
