Population/Demographics section needed

Nobody lives there. Population zero. Rustygecko (talk) 10:10, 21 March 2022 (UTC)
Economy
edit"With no population, there is no indigenous economic activity." Really? Really? Without a population, there's not an economy, huh? I'm glad that was clarified. It's not as though it was obvious or anything. I mean, I was totally wondering about what kind of economic activity might be going on in this place with no people. But then this sentence addressed that very point. Maybe it's not enough though. Perhaps there should be more about the relationship between the lack of people and the lack of an economy. 24.19.63.114 (talk) 08:34, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
Move?
editI think the article should be called Heard and McDonald Islands; having no 'island' after Heard. It sounds a lot better and simpler that way. Ross Rhodes (T C) Sign! 18:47, 31 May 2009 (UTC) The name of the territory has the current title in its name, so it's more accurate as it is. Erinius (talk) 23:03, 27 July 2015 (UTC)
Plate Tectonics
editThese islands are out in the middle of nowhere in the southern Indian Ocean. Does anyone have any idea why Heard is volcanic? Virgil H. Soule (talk) 17:38, 1 May 2013 (UTC)
- Oceanic islands can be formed over a volcanic hotspot, see Hawaii hotspot. --Chaozu42 (talk) 21:19, 23 March 2018 (UTC)

Kms of miles - make your mind up

Name
editWhy is this territory called Heard Island and McDonald Islands instead of Heard Island and the McDonald Islands? Why is the definite article (the) omitted? 2001:8003:9100:2C01:A4CB:C8E9:14BE:3CCB (talk) 16:56, 11 December 2023 (UTC)
