'Celtic'

edit

'Celtic' is listed among the languages Hayley Westenra has sung in, but this is not a language—it is a family of languages. It's like saying she has sung in Romance instead of French and Italian. At a guess, she has sung in Irish Gaelic. If so, this should be stated. Likewise if she's sung in Scots Gaelic, Welsh or Breton. Koro Neil (talk) 14:50, 5 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Is this a good article for her first marriage?

edit

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/entertainment/news/article.cfm?c_id=1501119&objectid=11180343

WP:GOSSIP or WP:PRIVACY don't apply here cause it's a major event in her life that she shared PUBLICLY in a magazine, which makes it our business. Her dad talked about it. If we don't include her splitting up, I think it's OK to add. It's a major source in NZ, for crying out loud.

Not to mention in was on here before, until one user cried privacy.

Update: put back what was on before her split up was added: the article that said she was married in the first place. As stated before, it was shared publicly by her that she had a first marriage. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kay girl 97 (talkcontribs)

Just because it was here before does not mean it should stay. A lot of information has been deleted, mind you. Check the history page and see for yourself. It does not matter that a certain piece of information has been talked about publicly. Wikipedia is no place for talking about someone's private life, even if that person is a public figure. Nerd271 (talk) 21:20, 24 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
You clearly don't know anything about Wikipedia. Every other's famous person's page has their marital status. Kay girl 97 (talk) 20:58, 28 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
Please use colons to indent your comments on talk pages. Thank you! I would also appreciate it if you refrain from personal attacks. But to address what you said, just because someone else has it does not mean this person's page should. I obviously cannot police everything. Also keep in mind that this is a living person. Just because you see some news about her does not mean that should be here. As I said, her personal life is none of our business. Nerd271 (talk) 21:16, 28 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
It is our business when she happily shares the news with us. It was on here during the whole time she was married and everyone else was OK with it! Unless you give me a reliable source where she says "My marriage is none of your business", then she made it our business! Kay girl 97 (talk) 01:57, 29 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
In this case, the only thing that really matters is the reliability of the sources. Yes, we typically list marriages--but not dates or engagements or whatever. Kay girl 97, this isn't the first time that your comments border on personal attacks. Drmies (talk) 02:52, 29 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
Wah Wah. Just admit you're wrong. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kay girl 97 (talkcontribs)

@Drmies: Fair enough. @Kay girl 97: Sometimes I wonder why on Earth some people are so obsessed about a person's private life. But OK. (Shrugs). Nerd271 (talk) 00:21, 4 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Kay girl 97: Who were you referring to? And for goodness sake learn to indent properly on a talk page! Sign your name, too! Nerd271 (talk) 04:39, 4 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
:I indented. Does that fix your equilibrium? Kay girl 97 (talk) 19:45, 11 October 2019 (UTC) 19:44, 11 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
Well not correctly. But if I put that aside, the childish insults are not doing you any favours. It also doesn't help to make a big deal over being "right" when this dispute started off in part with you claiming someone was married when the source you provided explicitly said the person could have gotten married, or simply engaged, or neither. Assessing sources for marriages

edit

We have several good sources for Westenra's first marriage to Arnaud Sabard, but nothing was published about the divorce as far as I know.

The media noticed in April 2019 that Westenra was dating Christopher Gaelan McFarland. Several instagram photos show their wedding in September. An online court document shows he filed for divorce. But none of the marriage or divorce was published in WP:SECONDARY sources. Below are the sources I could dig up, some of which have been in this bio for a short time. If we cannot find proper secondary sources, we cannot put it in the article. Binksternet (talk) 13:37, 14 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

  • Marriage to Sabard.
    • "Westenra Weds in Secret". NZ Herald. January 2014.
