Hamilton's 8th win?

edit

This MSA UK news item from a couple of days ago states that Hamilton has won the trophy for a record eighth time. But by my reckoning, he's only won it 7 times, for his achievements in the 2007, 2008, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 seasons. (Noting that the trophy is presented the year after the season for which it is awarded, i.e. the trophy presented to Hamilton in July 2018 was for his achievement in the 2017 season). I'd also point out that the corresponding news item from last year describes him as winning the trophy for the sixth time. Thoughts? DH85868993 (talk) 22:25, 20 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Season 1979 - Alan Jones or Gilles Villeneuve?

edit

Before the major edit by User:MWright96, this page contained the following lines:

The only instance of the award not going to the highest placed British or Commonwealth driver was in 1979, when the trophy was given to Alan Jones instead of Gilles Villeneuve. Villeneuve had finished runner-up in the championship, one place ahead of Jones in third.[why?][citation needed]

Maybe the sources are simply mistaken? There’s a confusion about the award for season 2013, and this one is decades older. --Brinerat (talk) 04:24, 8 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

I mean maybe we should add this back to the article? The wording may be as follows: “Most sources list Alan Jones of Australia as the recipient of this award for 1979 season(some refs here), but he finished third and Canadian Gilles Villeneuve was second.” --Brinerat (talk) 06:04, 8 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Season 2013 - Lewis Hamilton or Mark Webber?

edit

Before the major edit by User:MWright96, this article listed Webber as winner for 2013, and now it’s Hamilton. But the article 2013 Formula One World Championship says that Hamilton was 4th and Webber was 3rd.

The source currently linked in corresponding row says 2013 winner was Hamilton: https://www.motorsportuk.org/motorsport-uk-awards-lewis-hamilton-the-prestigious-hawthorn-memorial-trophy/

However, earlier that row used source that lists Webber (see page 13): https://www.motorsportuk.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Night_of-Champions.pdf

I checked some other sources in this article. This source says that for season 2014, Hamilton won the Hawthorne trophy for 4th time. As he undoubtedly won it in 2007, 2008, and 2012, this suggests he didn’t win it in 2013: https://www.speedcafe.com/2015/07/03/lewis-hamilton-wins-hawthorn-memorial-trophy/

This source (linked in row 2015) says that for season 2015, Hamilton won the trophy for the second year in a row. This also means he didn’t win it in 2013: https://www.thecheckeredflag.co.uk/2016/07/hamilton-dedicates-hawthorn-trophy-fans/

So, I think the source used for 2013 row is mistaken. I’ll replace Hamilton with Webber for 2013, replace the source with that pdf previously used, and fix multiple winners table accordingly. --Brinerat (talk) 04:54, 8 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

2023 season to be added

edit

Could someone who knows how to, please add Lewis Hamilton to the winners table for 2023, and update the statistics section accordingly? I have updated the infobox and the description in the main text about the most recent winner, but don't have the skills to edit those other tables. Thanks! 98selitb (talk) 08:36, 25 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
