Declining number of Harvey's restaurants in Montreal?

Hi, a number of Harvey's in Montreal have closed since 2006, I'm curious to know how the chain is faring financially.

Reply from Keith: I know in London, ON a location closed because Cara Operations raised their franchise fee and percentages. It was an older location without a drive-thru, with minimal business. Perhaps this is the case with the Montreal locations. (Dec. 03, 2006)

Speaking as a Montrealer I've noticed this too...there's very few Harvey's left in and around Montreal (quite a contrast from a decade or two ago). Swiss Chalet, also owned by Cara, pulled the chain out of the Quebec entirely a few years ago, I often wonder if they're not gradually doing the same with Harvey's restaurants. Looking on their website there's still a large number of restaurants operating in Ontario, so the business itself is probably still healthy. I think it is just Quebec (which has been in decline since the late 70's; with all its political uncertainty many companies and businesses continue to pull out). As of early 2008 there's still some Harvey restaurants around Montreal, but they're now far and few between.-Apple2gs (talk) 02:30, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

Coincidentally, just after writing the above I learned Kelsey’s (another large chain owned by Cara Operations Ltd) has just closed ALL its Quebec restaurants and pulling completely out of the province. With both Swiss Chalet and Kelsey’s pulled out of the province, one has to wonder if Harvey's in Quebec isn't next.Apple2gs (talk) 12:54, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

Interestingly, I just discovered Montana's Cookhouse, yet another restaurant chain owned by Cara Operations, shutdown in Quebec recently. I still can't help but wonder if Harvey's will be around Quebec some years from now...Apple2gs (talk) 05:02, 12 February 2009 (UTC)

The Swiss Chalet pull-out was collusion between whoever owned Swiss Chalet at the time and Saint Hubert ... that should have been obvious even to competition regulators but ... not so much. --plaws (talk)

Which toppings?

Okay, just out of sheer curiosity... the article mentioned:

This was later discontinued due to overuse of certain toppings.

Which toppings were these? Ketchup? Mustard? Pickles? Onions? Something else?

Anselmo?

Just a heads up, in the history section there's a lone mention of somebody named 'Anselmo' considering different names. The name doesn't seem to appear anywhere else in the article. Maybe it's a leftover of some earlier change/correction in the founder's name, but I don't know the topic enough to correct myself. 99.232.11.137 (talk) 03:30, 21 December 2007 (UTC)

I rated the article "start" class today because, while its length and depth are good, it lacks sources and inline referencing. If appropriate sources are added/referenced, the article can easily reach "C" class, IMO. PKT(alk) 12:10, 24 October 2009 (UTC)

4th biggest chain in Canada

The link appears to be from 1977. A lot may have changed in 35 years. Perhaps it is still the 4th biggest fast food/hamburger chain in Canada but a more contemporary source would be nice. Tigerman2005 (talk) 10:06, 30 April 2012 (UTC)

I would guess that that link does not actually have that info. From what I can find online Harvey's is the 4th largest burger chain (not fast food) in terms of locations in Canada behind McDonald's, A&W, and Wendy's and 2nd largest Canadian established restaurant chain in behind Tim Horton's. Contradiction

In the "Flagship burger" section it says that, "In 2010, as a competitive measure to McDonald's Angus burgers (which were first introduced in Canada in 2008), Harvey's introduced their Angus burger series." In the bulleted list above this sentence it says the Angus Burger was introduced one year earlier in 2007. Obviously both dates can't be correct so when was it introduced, 2007 or 2008? -- Millionsandbillions (talk) 19:09, 2 December 2016 (UTC)

Poutine availability

I removed the claim that Harvey's was one of the few fast food restaurants in Canada to offer poutine on its menu. McDonalds, Burger King, Wendy's, A&W, and others all offer poutine. It was unsourced anyways. Andrewbore (talk) 18:18, 3 January 2017 (UTC)

Timeline is suspect ...

There is an issue with timeline ... It says that one of the things that Harvey's pioneered was the use of fresh-cut potatoes based on what they were doing at Swiss Chalet. I'd have to dig a bunch, but I'm pretty sure Harvey's and Swiss Chalet had nothing to do with one another until late 1970s/early 1980s when both chains came under Foodcorp ... in any case, their fries are not what they used to be nor are their burgers. They used to make them from "100% beef" mixed with some sort of filler and they were great ... now they are just like everyone else's. Booo. --plaws (talk) 18:27, 14 October 2023 (UTC)

Name of Harvey's

There was an article in yesterday's (October 19) Toronto Star in the business section that the name Harvey's is based on the original founder's liking of Montreal Canadiens defenseman Doug Harvey. Harvey played for Montreal from 1947 to 1961, he was an all-star, and the team won 6 Stanley Cups with him. 74.220.190.125 (talk) 20:39, 20 October 2023 (UTC)
