Candidian or dual-nationality?

edit

Anyone know if he's just a candidaian or a duel nationality with the UK? --Cameron Scott (talk) 13:22, 23 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Twitter Account

edit

Should we add something about various journalists (Nick Cohen, James Bloodworth, Louis Barfe etc...) insisting he didn't run his own twitter account? 92.22.209.107 (talk) 17:45, 28 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

He obviously didn't, because he needed a magnifying glass to read and his eyesight would not permit him to tweet at that rate. The account's 'voice' is recognisably the same now, despite Harry's death, so it is clearly the same person using it. It has lately been used to claim that Harry would want Labour Party members to vote in very specific ways in the current leadership and deputy leadership elections (despite Harry not actually being here and not being able to express a view). The account is mainly used, however, to ask for money. Fair enough if you're short, but still. Khamba Tendal (talk) 21:18, 14 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Little baffled when references to him migrating to candida keep getting removed?

edit

I'm a little baffled when it's a matter of record that he migrated to Canada in the 1950s that this is constantly removed? It's covered in RS - for example:

"He fought for Great Britain in the Second World War, and he immigrated to Canada with little more than the clothes on his back." - http://thechronicleherald.ca/metro/1299510-harry-leslie-smith-harper-government-risk-to-our-civilized-society

"Harry Leslie Smith is a 92-year-old British-Canadian voting and anti-austerity activist" - https://www.vice.com/en_uk/article/vice-meets-harry-leslie-smith

There appears to be some concern about your involvement in this article. Do you have a COI?--v/r - TP 14:49, 9 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
Concern? Where? as for COI - the constant removing of this information was from a rotating IP in his home-town which seems to the COI. My only COI is about R/S and reliability. --Cameron Scott (talk) 19:25, 9 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
The claim is here. The subject's daughter seems to believe you're active in UK politics and are an opponent of a candidate the subject has publicly endorsed. There is some justifiable reasons to believe so based on some research. I've emailed the information to Arbcom. So, please clearly state whether or not you have a COI.--v/r - TP 20:53, 9 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
"There is some justifiable reasons to believe so based on some research. Please provide this evidence or redrawn that rather lurid claim intended to poison the well. I'm a semi-retired editor who tends to edit what takes their fancy. Who is this mystery candidate because I couldn't work it out? And who am I suppose to be? --Cameron Scott (talk) 07:04, 10 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
I've already submitted it to Arbcom. You may take it up with them. However, in all of your aggressive redirection, I notice you still have not explicitly denied having a COI.--v/r - TP 12:19, 10 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
Little sign of a cover-up here when the article shows very clearly, in both lead and body, that Harry was born in Britain and emigrated to Canada many years ago. The question to ask is not "does anyone know" his current citizenship status but "has that been published in reliable sources?". In the absence of that I'd remove the citizenship item from the infobox. And do stop typing "candida": Noyster (talk), 16:01, 9 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
It's auto-correct, I'm a bit baffled when it keeps doing that - in the title of one of the sources I used it notes his citizen and as far as I am ware the title of an article is part of a RS is it not? It's also mentioned in the article itself "Harry Leslie Smith is a 92-year-old British-Canadian voting and anti-austerity activist" --Cameron Scott (talk) 19:25, 9 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
I have no problem about "British-Canadian" in the text of the article as a general description, succinctly bringing together country of birth & country of long-time residence. I don't, however, think our sources so far are enough to fill in the Citizenship item in the infobox. Citizenship is a documented legal status, not a statement of personal allegiance or of present or past location. So unless we find a published statement in a reliable source explicitly saying "he holds British citizenship" or "... Canadian ..." or "... dual British and Canadian citizenship" I think we should leave that item blank (privately circulated images of personal documents are of no value in determining content of Wikipedia articles): Noyster (talk), 21:37, 9 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
I'm not going to discuss the content, I'm participating solely as an admin responding to an admin-help-needed template. With that in mind, and with regards to WP:BLP and how it affects the subject, I think its important to read what the subject's daughter has said regarding the citizenship issue here.--v/r - TP 22:16, 9 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
Actually I answered the question at least twice - once below and once else where - I have no conflict of interest. --Cameron Scott (talk) 12:40, 10 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
But if he's dual-nationality - he'd have two passports... as for the rest of her comments, I have no idea what that is about - I tend to edit articles based on what I've read about in the news that day so in regards to COI, my answer is no. Having said that her comment is so vague, I'm not even clear who she is talking about. --Cameron Scott (talk) 06:58, 10 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

"was a British writer and political commentator."

edit

Surely this first sentence should include that he was a left-wing political commentator. You only get half the story if you don't say a pundit's school of thought. He was described as such on the BBC News bulletin so I am almost certain there will be text sources to back up the statement too. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.243.236.2 (talk) 06:55, 29 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

I'm looking for a free pic of him in the military that is property of the UK Gov. like this one of Montgomery. Can anyone help? Anna Frodesiak (talk) 22:21, 2 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Okay, I've added a non-free image. If anyone can find a UK Gov free military pic to replace it with, please do so. Thanks. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 23:56, 13 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
