devoted to his wife. Where did this come from? He was a notorious womaniser (not just after his wife died either), and didnt lose his money in gambling, he gave it to his many mistresses. The attribution of this phrase needs some investigation. The NYT ([1], mouseover the 11th richest person) and Wikipedia say it's from Marshall Field, while the Milwaukee Journal [2] and Wikipedia say it's from Harry Gordon Selfridge. --Nethgirb 10:31, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
- After reading the MJ article it doesn't specifically state that Selfridge came up with the quote. I added another reference (of unfortunately unknown reliability) that gives more background and says it's not known which of them deserves the credit. --Nethgirb 06:42, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
