Is the publication year correct? edit

Under the "Works Include" heading is the book Tom Newcombe, or, The Boy of Bad Habits. The year of publishing is listed as 1896. And even though all my Internet research agrees with that, I have a book that does not.

I have the 525-page hardbound "THE CHILDS OWN BOOK of Standard Fairy Tales," "Alta Edition" published by Porter & Coates in Philadelphia. At the end of the book, is a two page listing of series and books by Harry Castlemon. One of the books listed is the Tom Newcombe one.

What makes me question the 1896 publication date for Tom Newcombe is that my book was published in 1886 ! ! !

Plus, my book has a dated inscription of "Oct. 29, 1891" ! ! !

Given these two earlier dates, I think it would be prudent to --

1) Remove the date from the Newcombe title line, or;

2) Put a "(?)" after the date, or;

3) Do some more research to verify the year Newcombe was actually published.

What do you all think? 2600:8800:788:B900:C23F:D5FF:FEC5:89B6 (talk) 10:04, 14 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
