Harriet Lummis Smith (novelist) and Harriet L. Smith (first black teacher in the Boston public school system) are different people.
Harriet L. Smith has a sister (also a teacher) named Elizabeth N. Smith (see African-Americans in Boston).
Harriet Lummis Smith had two brothers Harry Brewster Lummis and Charles Fletcher Lummis. Her father "Dr. (and Reverend) Henry Lummis" was "the head of the Greek department at Lawrence College in Appleton, Wisconsin." (See Harriet L.
