I removed the awards cited to axishistory.com tagged as an unreliable source since June 2016. I'm preserving this material by providing this link. K.e.coffman (talk) 01:34, 9 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Pronunciation of Name

edit

Some pronunciation of the name Jeschonnek should be included. It is not clear to non-German speakers how this name should be pronounced as the phonetic rules of German are different from English. I have just watched a documentary where the voiceover consistently said /dzheshonek/. I believe that in German J is pronounced like English Y.

Proof Needed for Engineer and Nazi Part

edit

So in the Wiki I saw some claims that are contradictory to the source I have. Could anyone provide some more evidences and proofs to support the following claims? Thx!

1. “his denigration of engineers was typical of the Luftwaffe leadership from Göring down.”

One of his long-time and closest friend von Richthofen held a doctoral degree in engineering so how was Jeschonnek denigrated of engineers?

2. “Jeschonnek was a member of the Nazi Party, along with several others in the higher echelons of the Luftwaffe which earned it a reputation as a Nazi service.”

I know he’s a fanboy of Hitler’s and therefore expressed opinions in favor of the Nazi party as early as 1932 but that along wasn’t enough to proof that he was actually a party member. On the contrary, Suchenwirth has explicitly described Jeschonnek to be “never a Nazi”. Any direct proof of this subject? Airakale (talk) 15:06, 5 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

All of this has been sourced. Read the article and observe the citations provided. #2 was provided by Richard Overy, there is no further explanation required. Dapi89 (talk) 09:18, 11 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

I checked your claim about Suchenwirth - he does not say he wasn't a Nazi. He says he didn't assume a simultaneous allegiance to Hitler and the party. Thus it tallies with the Overy source that he eventually became a member of the party. Not that these two acadmeics need to explain themselves to us; they are both acknwoledged experts. On the same page Suchenwirth cited Jeschonnek’s secretary: “He had no political connection with the Nazi Party. But, I might say that in his character and the impression he made he was what people at the time imagined an ideal National Socialist to be like.” Airakale (talk) 03:39, 14 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

It isn't on the same page, it is in a foot note, tucked away with the references. A claim by his secretary isn't reliable or worth mentioning. Probably why Suchenwirth saw fit not to include it in the text. The fact remains, evidence exists he was a member of the party, and adored Hitler. No further discussion is required. Also, why ignore Von Seidel's opinion? He " calls Jeschonnek a 100-percent Nazi who had taken a personal oath to Hitler.” Given in the same footnote. Dapi89 (talk) 19:57, 16 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Von Seidel was known to be in a less than friendly term with Jeschonnek to an extent that the two refused to talk to each other and asked someone else to pass the messages in a period of time. If the word of a closed one cannot be trusted, so does the word of an enemy. Not to mention that he left an opinion of Jeschonnek known to be false in Nielsen’s book therefore I doubt his words valid when regarding Jeschonnek. Also in 1934 all but one Wehrmacht officer (who in fact was Jeschonnek’s uncle) had taken personal oath to Hitler, including von Seidel, so that doesn’t mean much.

What I wanna say is, a Nazi sympathizer and a Nazi Party member are absolutely different things, and saying a Nazi Party member “ had no political connection with the Nazi Party” is beyond ridiculous. Airakale (talk) 13:43, 4 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Irrelevant opinions. The sources peak for themselives. Dapi89 (talk) 09:38, 23 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

I have to remind you that we both possess the same source... So should I say that what you claimed to peak itself is not the source but your own interpretation. Airakale (talk) 06:25, 9 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

Misreading of source

edit

"According to the adjutant, he did not hear the shot, despite being only 10 metres (33 ft) from Jeschonnek's office."

That's not what the source says. Suchenwirth is quoting the secretary (Lotte Kersten), and it's she who says she didn't hear the shot. 2A02:AA1:1025:9D11:196E:E9A4:1E:B742 (talk) 00:33, 20 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
