Doctorate?

edit

Doctor Hans Holzer? Doctorate in what subject? Conferred by what institution?

I'm going to "be bold" and delete the title until such time as it's confirmed. -- Davidkevin (talk) 22:27, 1 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

He earned his Ph.D. from the London College of Applied Science —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.244.122.243 (talk) 19:37, 6 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

However, without a reference, I believe the line relating to this alleged PHD should be removed — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.44.52.0 (talk) 15:17, 12 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Yeah multiple media organization have been unable to locate this school. It simple doesn't exist. Noted it in the appropriate place and removed it from his education summary in his bio box. It's silly to have non existent entities in that box. Mindme (talk) 17:48, 25 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

1st sentence

edit

hi. i think the 1st sentence would probably read better as, ""Hans Holzer (26 January 1920 – 26 April 2009) was a pioneering Austrian-born American paranormal researcher and author." 63.142.146.194 (talk) 04:24, 12 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

False PhD claims

edit

Apparently Holzer pretended he had PhD. I have just found this paper, it says:

"Mr Hans Holzer has no Ph. D. from the university of London, a fact readily established from British reference books that publish dissertation titles. His information supplied to Contemporary Authors and other publications correctly omits any reference to that university. Who's Who in America accepted his Ph.D. on his words. He currently holds no academic professorship listed in the National Faculty Directory."

Holzer was a proponent of the pseudoscientific belief of psychic archaeology. The paper criticizes some of his ideas.

Marshall McKusick. Psychic Archaeology: Theory, Method, and Mythology. Journal of Field Archaeology. Vol. 9, No. 1 (Spring, 1982), pp. 99-118.

I think this is already covered in the article as best we really can, quoting: "claimed to have obtained a Ph.D. at a school called the London College of Applied Science." There was an earlier discussion (see above) where some other text was removed because there was no proof of his Ph.D. --Krelnik (talk) 20:27, 13 May 2016 (UTC)Reply
I can't find any other information about his alleged PhD. I have tried to improve the article but won't be working on it any longer, I probably will add the above source just for clarification. HealthyGirl (talk) 15:49, 14 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Leaving Vienna for the USA

edit

Hello, My dad was friends with Hans Holzer in Vienna. They were apparently the only two teens in the city's formal stamp collection club. My dad stayed in touch with Holzer for most of his life and I met him as well. My father says that the Holzers were Jewish and left Vienna in 1938 because they recognized that they were in danger. - Susan Subak — Preceding unsigned comment added by Greenhistoria (talkcontribs) 05:39, 10 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
