"Fairground" is a very poor translation of "Messegelände". While "fair" can indeed mean a trade fair, the term "fairground" always means an amusement park, not a commercial trade and exhibition site.

The Messe itself, in its English web pages, retains the German word "Messe" rather than translating it to "exhibition" or "trade fair".

I suggest "Hanover Exhibition Area". (I also prefer "Hannover", but that's another question).
