The ascertion that the precession was first realized around 4000 BCE is inaccurate. From the discussion on page 340 of the First Edition (1969) it would appear that the authors mention 4000 BC as the latest possible date for its realization. The general sense is that they feel the actual date to be much earlier, perhaps by many millennia. Here is but one small quote: "Its beginning has already been placed in the Neolithic, without setting limits in the past, let prehistoric archeologists decide" ---Hamlet's Mill (1969) page 340. The 4000 BC date is of special relevance due to the supposed ending of the Golden Age (giving rise to the various Flood myths), something of interest to those that follow the arguments put forth by the authors.
