Macassa Bay

June 2019 edit shows a reference to "Macassa Bay" as an indigenous name. Any citation available on this? It seems spurious on its face -- for one, I really doubt any local indigenous languages used the word "bay" (and the word Macassa doesn't look Anishinaabe or Iroquois to me) -- and a quick Google search only brought up a yacht club and a tiny arm of the larger Hamilton Harbour.

To be comfortable with this inclusion I'd really like to know what indigenous people gave it this name, at what time it was recorded, and (ideally) written in the actual language if possible. Marnevell (talk) 00:24, 20 June 2019 (UTC)

I can’t find anything about it’s connection with indigenous so I’ve removed it. If you look on Google Maps, there is a very small bay of the Hamilton Harbour that is called Macassa Bay. Vaselineeeeeeee^★★★ 00:52, 20 June 2019 (UTC)

other wikipedia articles do discuss this, with a citation. So, I added it here too. Just because only a small bay and yacht club bear this name today does not refute the fact. 19:49, 9 July 2019 (UTC) Peter K Burian

A recent Spectator article states that "consultation with the knowledge keeper determined Macassa isn’t in fact an Indigenous term." Bdpr (talk) 20:54, 18 February 2023 (UTC)
