Hi. Google Mound, MN and click on the Google map. Look to the SouthWest. The bay really exists. Thank you.

Its size of about 420 acres, is a farmers estimate, using a map with section lines. The MN DNR doesn't do all of the individual bays of Lake Minnetonka.

Geography

edit

What is Mound's Highland geography? Is that a general term, perhaps related to Effigy mounds, or was it caused by glacial moraines or an ancient river valley?--Appraiser 17:39, 16 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

What I am trying to write is that there are bluffs and hills along parts of the lakeshore. Mound has a neighborhood that starts east of the bay called, the Highlands. Other local high places are Saint Boni where one can see the IDS tower, and the old Nike Base north of there. I am all for simplicity, and improving the article. Perhaps it should be deleted until I know more of what I wrote. The mounds for which Mound is named, is another article or sub article that needs to be written. I've worked on some of the effigy mound articles; they're listed in Category:Mound builders and some are in the list at Indian Mounds Park. But I think the bluffs in Mound are probably from glacial melt erosion, like Glacial River Warren (the valley now followed by the Minnesota River).--Appraiser 17:39, 16 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

References

edit

This is the best I can do for now. Is there a short cut to making these things? I read the reference on Google books, and am familiar with the book. If you search Google Books, and then Minnesota Place Names, and then Halsted, a link might come up to put on the page, maybe.
