Talk:Hairshirt environmentalism

Latest comment: 5 hours ago by The Anome in topic Opposing PROD

While this is certainly a neologism, whether or not its use is "notable" is subjective. Quantitatively, there are about 400 Google results for both "hairshirt green" and "hairshirt environmentalism". Admittedly, not many. The idea it encapsulates is certainly widely expressed - there is a growing concern within the environmentalist movement that reduce/reuse/recycle is not going to be enough. Necessary, but not sufficient.

Wikipedia is not the right forum to hold this debate, but it does provide a mechanism to at least define the terms. I don't think anyone would argue that this is not an important topic that's being actively discussed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Iamiggie (talkcontribs) July 12 2009 (UTC)

Opposing PROD

edit

@The Anome, I cannot rationalise a PROD for a term that has been around since 2009. While I agree that the page is poor by 2024 standards, there are a decent number of pages that link to it and the term is certainly in common use. Therefore I don't think notability is so obviously poor that a PROD is appropriate. Being too close to a dictionary and/or an essay..a much stronger case. I have pinged the Enviroment project for them to do something (if they want). It is too far outside my expertise for me to improve it NPOV. I am deliberately leaving the PROD in place as neglect=no interest=not notable for that project. Ldm1954 (talk) 22:05, 15 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

To say the article is poor is putting it mildly. Just because a term has been used does not make it a thing. To make this a proper article, it should have multiple reliable sources that at least discuss it as a concept, rather than just using the term. — The Anome (talk) 11:06, 16 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Agreed; it is currently more a dictionary entry stretched into a short essay. Ldm1954 (talk) 11:15, 16 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
If it's not improved soon, I will likely propose it for deletion at AfD. — The Anome (talk) 11:35, 16 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
I left the PROD on, deliberately. I have no problem with deletion if there is no interest in improvement. Adding a curtesy ping to previous editors @Iamiggie, Graeme Bartlett, Kku, Sadads, Mccapra, Edward, and Mr3641: Ldm1954 (talk) 11:43, 16 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
I added the prod back in 2009, and it was rejected. That means it cannot be prodded a second time. Use AFDd if you want. I claimed it was a neologism back then. Not so new now. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 12:09, 16 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
