Note that "Grenade Alley" and "Purple Heart LANE" were nicknames given to small alleyways running through the slums adjacent to Haifa St., not to the street itself. The street itself didn't need any nicknames.

Haifa is in Israel, but...

Mentioning it here would mislead the common reader to think that this was a kind of gesture to the State of Israel or the Israeli People, while, in fact, it was the other way around. Saddam Hussein used this name in order to show that he regarded Haifa as an Arab city. The fact that the Hebrew, Arabic and English names are almost identical makes this political issue a bit confusing (unlike in the case of Jerusalem, for example, where each community has a different name for the city). Since anyone can learn about Haifa with a simple click on the link "Haifa", I think stating it is in Israel is a matter of redundancy. Combat intemsity

I was a soldier in TF 1/9 patrolling the Haifa Street AO in OIF II. The 82nd Airborne unit attached to TF 1/9 was brought to assist in security for the highly conflicted first presidential election. The efforts of TF 1/9 had already brought more stability to the area before the paratroopers were assigned to it. US casualties had significantly decreased, as well as sectarian violence, by October 2004. The 82nd unit was not assigned until November 2004. The misconception probably stems from the notrious reputation Haifa Street had, then the 82nd soldiers enter the area and see that combat intensity is not as high as they were told it would be. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.79.15.131 (talk) 08:27, 18 September 2011 (UTC)
