Giant table

I converted this table into wikicode. I assumed "planing" meant "planned for the future" and made some other changes like alphabetical order. I don't believe information like this is copyrightable; only the way in which it was presented. I destroyed all such presentation formatting in the conversion process, so I think we're fine. We should make this into an article and allow it to be updated and fixed in a wiki way — Omegatron 18:01, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

Missing from list

We should just duplicate the chart shown in External links.

The HTC Excalibur (S620) Excalibur is missing from the list of Smartphone devices. Can someone add it to the list of devices and its variant names? - SEAL6 17:53, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

Other older PDAs and Windows CE devices

I think someone should look into adding some of the older Windows CE based devices that HTC has developed over the years in addition to the more recent Pocket PCs and Smartphones. An at least somewhat complete list of these devices would be very interesting for a wiki page like this. I know for a fact that they were the ODM of the Everyex Freestyle (which also had many other names) range of Windows CE Palm Size PCs as well as I'm sure more than a few Handheld PCs and other PsPCs. It seems they have been designing an amazing array of all sorts of different Windows CE devices almost from the beginning. Based on a cached version of their site on Archive.org, they were even the ODM for some ARM Windows CE Thin clients. New Table

Hope everyone liked the new table I put up for the Pocket PC section as I believe it is much easer to read than a list of names like before, its not been changed back so I assume nobody hated it! I have tried to use the only official name/number of each phone after release from HTC rather than the various names mobile carriers have given them (this page is about HTC after all!), I think the phone's page should carry those where needed. Upcoming phones could use the usual HTC codename up until release. If no one objects I'll convert the smartphone section to a table when I get chance. PJDelaney (talk) 15:49, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

One thing is that the Athena/Advantage and Universal are not UMPCs, other than being kinda large they are no different a Touch Pro for example (which is more powerful). Please include all aliases (in a separate table if needed). This information is VERY valuable and is a huge help when centralized as it was previously. It's true that people can go to each individual page to find a device's alias, but it's not as easy to go the other direction (start with an alias and find out the HTC name). I much prefer the table in the discussion section, although it's arguable that it's too wide to look good in the actual article. I don't want to revert the new table, as it appears there is information in it that is valuable to other people, but for me the previous lists were more helpful, and I referenced them often. 64.58.164.150 (talk) 23:33, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

I think the new table is more useful to the majority of people but I agree that having all the names in one place would be handy (you can look up the other way round at PDAdb.net BTW). I don't think sandwiching them onto the newer table is an option though as it will make it much heavier and less easy to comprehend. I'm all for a new separate table similar to the one above (albeit slimmed down with fewer operators perhaps?) under the product range heading as it mentions who the phones are produced for but would yet another table detailing the same set of phones look ok? Smartphone vs Pocket PC

What exactly is the difference, in this context, between a Smartphone and a Pocket PC Phone? --Quasar 20:48, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

Different versions of Windows Mobile. Windows Mobile Smartphone Edition (now called 'Standard Edition' as of Windows Mobile 6) devices feature cellular radios (ie, they're phones), but don't have touchscreens. Windows Mobile Pocket PC Phone Edition (now called 'Professional Edition') have cellular radios and touchscreens. Smartphone devices can't run software intended for Pocket PC devices, however most Smartphone software works on Pocket PCs. You can find out more by looking up the appropriate wikipedia articles. The Basic Difference in Smartphone and Pocket PC phone is that Pocket PC is more oriented towards business people. Physically the two have difference of a touchscreen. There's a few different versions:

• Professional - Has touch screen, + phone capabilities. Usually no QWERTY keyboard.
• Standard - Phone capabilites + QWERTY keyboard. No touch screen, Sometimes look like phones.
• Classic - Touch screen. No phone capabilities.
• Square - Touch screen + Phone capabilities. Screen shaped like a box, only one orientation.

I don't see how the "Touch" isn't a Touch phone, so I've moved it to the Touch section.

New logo

gPad?

Can anyone find another source for this statement? IIRC, this hasn't been announced anywhere official, and the name gPad sounds like speculation at best.

"HTC also began work in 2010 with Google and N-trig in creating the gPad, a device engineered in competition with Apple Inc.'s iPad. Advertisement? Neutrality?

This article seems to be fairly self-promotional, with some of the material word-for-word from marketing material/video on the company web site. This is especially obvious with the lack of attribution of many positive edits, and few neutral/negative edits, and little material of substantial depth. The upfront material, history, and article as a whole all emphasize "firsts," parhnerships/alliances, and market positioning.

• Frankly, you seem very biased. Having "firsts" listed, partnerships, etc. has nothing to do with being self-promotional, especially if it's informational. Just because there is a lack of negative material does not mean it's self-promotional. Almost everything is sourced from tech news or other sites, NOT from the company website. I've seen much more blatantly self-promotional pages for other companies. Windows Phone

Really? Considering HTC have released one Windows Mobile 6.5 device (HD Mini) and 5 Windows Phone 7 devices (HD7, 7 Mozart, 7 Trophy, 7 Surround, 7 Pro) this year it is hard to justify that statement. Should be removed.
