Refit in Malta? Source?

Is there any reliable source for Tippu Sultan (ex-Onslow) being refitted at Malta in 1954? - all I've managed to find is this] from the Times of Malta, which reports graffiti at Fort Verdala from a member of Tippu Sultan's crew dated 1954 - while this suggests that the ship may have visited Malta that year (but the crew member could have being attending a training course there), but it doesn't confirm that the ship was actually being refitted.Nigel Ish (talk) 18:14, 26 January 2020 (UTC)

U-589 vs U-88

Unfortunately I'm not well versed enough in modifying pages and get a bit lost between all the coding marks.

However I'm currently reading "Destroyer Leader - The Story of HMS Faulknor" by Peter Smith published in 1968 by William Kimber & Co in London.

On pages 138-140 he states that the crew informed him they were the ones who were helped by HMS Avenger's Swordfish to sink U-589 on the 12th and the Onslow sank the U-88 a couple days later on the 14th of September.

He does acknowledge that other sources are confused on the matter (Roskill etc) yet claims in a note at the bottom of page 140 "from detailed research it is clear that the fact are as recounted above... See a recent Detailed Study, German Submarines H.T Lenton (Macdonald, 1965); also the excellent Tirpitz by David Woodward (Wm. Kimber). Mr C. Watson, in a letter to the author, also states that Faulknor 's kill was made in co-operation with one of Avenger 's Swordfish."

Take of that what you will.

I hope someone with better skills in the editor can wade through it for me.
