Query edit

Query: according to my father (Norman Gomersall, who was on board from 1939) Liverpool was used to transfer major gold reserves to America (Mare Island Navy Yard) and the ship was repaired there, not in Rosyth. The crew did not remain while repairs happened; it was sent to New York by train (before America entered the war - the crew were transported across country in secret) and from there were repatriated to England. My father is now dead - anyone around who knows any more about this? (originally posted by anon 212.44.22.39)

I have recently found photographs of various ships at sea my uncle took as he was serving in the war, HMS Liverpool is one of them. The photos really are a wonderful insight. If these photographs would be useful, please let me know, and I will upload them. Thanks! Cissmiace (talk) 00:26, 31 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

More images would be very helpful. Please feel free to upload them, and any other pictures of ships. Benea (talk) 07:25, 31 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Consideration of modernisation of HMS LIverpool 1952-53. edit

As the two largest towns the HMS Belfast and Liverpool were in some ways considered the cruisers most capable of modernisation in the early 1950s even thought they were both more than ten years old. Their larger hulls could have accomodated three of the new twin fully automatic 6 inch Mk 26 guns being tested on HMS Cumberland were none of the war completed Colony class cruisers had enough space, stability or internal volume and the HMS Superb could only have carried two of the new mounts. The percieved perception that the Liverpool was more suitable for modernisation was one of the reason it and Belfast were laid up in 1952-3, the RN having run into the ground its best ageing cruisers of the County class in the late 1940s. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.102.108.37 (talk) 07:05, 27 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Specifications edit

I've switched the beam and other stats to feet and inches rather than decimal feet in the infobox and will do the same for the main body using Raven & Roberts.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 02:53, 30 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
