Recent History

How about a bit more recent history ie after it became a museum ship? I remember visiting it in the 1980's and I think it was painted battleship grey. It now appears to be painted in dazzle camy. It would be interesting to hear about the conservation efforts, visitor numbers, etc. --ManInStone 14:50, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

Yes, see the article for her role in (starting off) the bombardment of German defences that day [User:bigpad|Patrick]]

Displacement

The IWM website gives her standard displacement as 11,553 tons. This appears to contradict the article. GraemeLeggett 14:31, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

Graeme, you are quite right. A number of sites list contradictory figures but the IWM/RN sites are the most trustworthy and clearly I should have said 11,xxx not 13,xxx. Thanks for spotting this. I'll update article accordingly Patrick.

WikiProject class rating

This article was automatically assessed because at least one WikiProject had rated the article as start, and the rating on other projects was brought up to start class. BetacommandBot 14:00, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

London Gateway

The article for London Gateway services states that the guns in both turrets of HMS Belfast are trained on the service station. Does anyone know if this is true, and if so could it be incorporated here, without resorting to a "trivia" section? ColourSarge (talk) 21:50, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

Mystery Weapon

I visited HMS Belfast today and I saw this weapon mounted on the ship. It's just below and slightly aft of the aftmost 40 mm turret. The specs all list only the 6 inch, 4 inch and 40 mm guns, so does anybody have any idea what this is, exactly?

Is that not a water cannon? sjwk (talk) 00:22, 26 March 2009 (UTC)
I doubt it's a water cannon. 3 pdr saluting gun maybe? Belfast was fitted with four. Benea (talk) 00:51, 26 March 2009 (UTC)
Yes, that's it! See here http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/e1/QF3pdrHotchkissRN1915.jpeg The associated article says they were obsolete guns, but many were brought back into service as subcalibre guns for gunnery practice until the 1950s. Worth adding to the article? BobThePirate (talk) 00:11, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

Improving this article

Hello all. In the interests of transparency, I am a curator at the Imperial War Museum, and recently have been trying to improve IWM-related articles. I endeavour to abide by WP:V, WP:NPOV and WP:NOR and other policy. Would like to start improving this article. Comments are welcome. --IxK85 (talk) 19:57, 1 November 2009 (UTC)

Hello all. As work on this article has now progressed along, I wonder if anyone would object to my removing the 'pop culture' section? I'm not convinced any of the contents is sufficiently notable to merit inclusion in an encyclopaedia article about a warship/museum ship. --IxK85 (talk) 14:55, 18 November 2009 (UTC)
Apparently nobody objects, so I will remove it.--IxK85 (talk) 16:30, 21 November 2009 (UTC)
