Title

Page moved and given English title from http://www.hec.fr/hec/eng/about/ --Duncan 16:12, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

préparationnaires

The "admission" part uses "préparationnaires" to reffer to students attending to CPGE (prepatory schools). In France the word "préparationnaires" has never been used; it should be either removed, or a quotation using this word added. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.186.10.114 (talk) 13:29, 18 March 2012 (UTC)

Redirect

I just redirected HEC_School_of_Management_Paris to here and removed the merge tag, because in my opinion it contained only unsalvagable advertisement. If someone wants to give it a try to move suitable info from there to here, it can be found in the history of that article: [1] --Cpt. Morgan (Reinoutr) 11:35, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks! I is good to have a decisive editor!--Duncan 12:09, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

Lack of objectivity

Indeed, national ranking is wrong.

Many rankings are not true, especially the ones concerning the national ranking. ESSEC Business school, or sometimes ESCP Europe, are regularly ranked first. HEC should add its sources before boasting.

I have added the sources as requested. All French magazines ranks HEC before ESSEC, you can check the sources.193.49.123.22 (talk) 22:07, 26 September 2010 (UTC)
Then I'm amazed by how you can distort truth. HEC was ranked 2nd in 2006 by L'Etudiant (to ESSEC), in 2004 by L'Expansion (to ESCP Europe), etc., and by Le Nouvel Economiste in 2010, 2009 (to ESSEC) and 2006 (to ESCP Europe) and stop modifying other top Business Schools pages wrongly.

The description of the campus, while it makes several fair points, is clearly biased and needs some working on. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.49.123.22 (talk) 20:32, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

A part of the article sounds a little bit arbitrary:

"HEC parties are the most recognized ones among all French schools and universities"

HEC parties are certainly some of the most recognized ones, but unless some proof of what is written above is given, I think it is better to change this sentence.

WikiStudia 06:33, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

Even that is to much. The idea that HEC has famous parties sounds crazy: it's a business school, not a nightclub. Unless you can find a reference, I suggest it's cut. --Duncan 07:09, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
To be honest, French business schools are rather famous for their parties, often explained by the fact that the students that went through 2 or 3 years of Classe Préparatoire spend their first year in Business School (or Engineer schools for that matters) doing next to nothing. Yet, this situation has evolved a lot in the last 5 or 10 years, due to both regulation on alcohol (no more free & unlimited alcohol in parties) and the fact that those Business Schools strongly enhanced the level of their first years to face international competition better. Still, the yearly party between the 3 "Parisiennes" Business Schools (HEC, ESCP-EAP, ESSEC) and the yearly X (Polytechnique)-HEC party are awaited moment of the Parisian student life. Saying that HEC parties are the most recognized is a bit far-etched, though. Medical Schools are strong contenders, Sciences Po got its famed "gala", Polytechnique parties are also extremely well-known. Only the ENS do not have this culture.

Fair use rationale for Image:Logo hec new.gif

Image:Logo hec new.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. COI and tone

The article reads like an admission brochure, and I have begun editing it to remove peacock terms excessive wordiness, repetition of the formal name, and inappropriate detail. I've also integrated two small tables into the text. A good deal of similar work remains. I remind anyone associated with the school interested in editing the article to follow the advice of our Business FAQ DGG (talk) 07:37, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

Please use a standard' higher education infobox, and a standard list of distinguished alumni--not special tables. We include all alumni with a WP article, so please see if there are any others. we do not include external links or links from within the text to the home pages of organizations within the school--WP is not an internet directory--just the school home page. Please check our guide to writing Wikipedia articles. I started fixing these things, but there is more to go. And please watch out for correct English plurals. DGG (talk) 03:51, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

The page does not currently exist for peacock terms.

The result of the move request was moved to HEC Paris. Wikipedia favors the WP:COMMONNAME over the WP:OFFICIALNAME -- Aervanath (talk) 07:19, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

  • HEC School of ManagementHEC Paris — Nobody uses the current title and the school is known as "HEC Paris". See for example the English website or the Financial Times ranking.--77.203.134.229 (talk) 22:22, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
  • Support or use HEC Paris School of Management. 70.29.213.241 (talk) 09:22, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
  • Oppose I think it just causes trouble, to use a name other than the official name for a school or company. And, the article starts off describing it as HEC School of Management. It has not even been presented in the article that the proposed name is a valid alternative name. I'd suggest trying to edit that alternative name in (if you can really find valid source(s) to support it), and see if that lasts in the article, before the more radical rename step. Sorry, i did not go to your two links, but if the Financial Times one that you refer to is just a short name in order to make the name fit in a table, that would not be very convincing to me. doncram (talk) 22:58, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
Further, the move nominator's statement that "Nobody uses the current title" is false, although it can be understood perhaps as an exaggeration for effect. I went to those two links. The English website also uses HEC School of Management (see [http://www.hec.edu/HEC-Paris/Press-room here). The Financial Times list is, stylistically, using short versions of names, such as "NHH" and "IMD" for two others. It is a news-writing style suited for its pretty well-informed readers, not for an encyclopedia where it is helpful to describe the full, "real" name of the place. It may be appropriate to create just a redirect from HEC Paris to the article, like there is a redirect from NHH, while IMD is a disambiguation page. It seems possible it is most commonly used now among a narrow circle. But I don't see a general source saying that the name most commonly used for the school, very broadly for encyclopedia readers, is HEC Paris. doncram (talk) 23:10, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
  • Support the official name of the school is "Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales de Paris", the logo is HEC Paris, and on google you can find twice as many results for "HEC Paris" as for "HEC School of Management". HEC is above all a French school and you'll find no source in French speaking of "HEC School of Management". Then, we have the choice between the most common name (HEC Paris) and the real official name (Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales see a very official source of that, (legal text) (use ctrl-f)). No other wikipedia uses "HEC School of Management". I vote for Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales (Paris)--77.198.81.34 (talk) 23:48, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
