Name of the club

I just want to point out that although the club is currently based in Poprad and the name HC Lev Poprad would seem logical, the Czech media still refer to the club as HC Lev Hradec Králové, even after the move of the club from the Czech Republic to Slovakia. To be more precise the Czech media refer to the club as "HC Lev Hradec Králové with place of business in Poprad". All this because it is expected that the team moves back to the Czech Republic after the 2010–11 season after everything is settled with the Czech Ice Hockey Association. --IJK_Principle (talk) 14:25, 19 July 2010 (UTC)

There is a press conference announced for next Monday (26 July), where they will also address the name of the team, possibly after also asking the fans for their opinion. One option mentioned was to call it just "HC Lev" which seems quite clever as it is independent of the actual location. Furthermore there is trouble ahead from the Slovak Hockey Federation which suddenly is reconsidering their approval, so maybe there will be no Lev at all... So I propose to wait a bit and when the name is finally known we can adjust the links and move this article to the appropriate name as well. Wild8oar (talk) 14:39, 19 July 2010 (UTC)

Because of the all but confirmed move to Prague, Lev Poprad is no longer the correct article title and thus I moved it (back) to HC Lev. Maybe after we know more about how the team is officially called, we can move it to Lev Prague or Lev Praha. Wild8oar (talk) 09:59, 25 April 2012 (UTC)

Official website

The official website is not hclev.sk, it even says "neoficiálna stránka" (meaning "unofficial site") at the bottom of the page. There are two other websites: hclev.cz and hclev.ru, they are both under construction as of now and it is to be seen if they are official or not. --IJK_Principle (talk) 00:09, 25 July 2010 (UTC)

Club folded, new czech one in KHL is new franchise?

I know and I tried to make this clear in the text. I am still in favor of having just one Lev article, since the two clubs are at least "related", and one appeared after the other disappeared. Its better to have separate articles since they are separate franchises. It makes no sense to keep them in the same article. Move this one to "HC Lev (2010-12)" and make HC Lev be for the new club. AFAIK, "Lev Proprad" and now "Lev Prague" aren't real hockey team names. Old team was called HC Lev, as is the new. The old team should, if I'm following style guides correctly, be called HC Lev (2010–12) and the new one just HC Lev --Львівське (говорити) 20:33, 17 May 2012 (UTC)

Can I see it? Are they referring to the club as such? Sparta Praha calls themselves with the city, but a lot of teams don't include the city in the official name - but it gets added to wikipedia due to bad translations and such --Львівське (говорити) 20:49, 17 May 2012 (UTC)

I'd say HC Lev Praha, since that's what the news article says and the logo...but then again, it might just be bad reporting since they call HC Donbass "Donbass Donetsk". Also, the forum says that it was reported that that isnt the final logo, so...--Львівське (говорити) 21:08, 17 May 2012 (UTC)

Ok, there are two questions, First question: HC Lev vs. Lev Prague: here I am clearly in favor of the latter option, because a) all wikipedia articles on KHL teams follow this convention and b) the KHL itself lists the club names that way (khl.ru - Teams). Second question: Lev Prague vs. Lev Praha: I have no strong feelings here. We have Sparta Praha, but Slavia Prague, so wikiepdia is not consistent. KHL articles follow this convention because I screwed up when I made them (yes, all of them). The KHL site...okay this is interesting. It was always my impression that the site wasn't very vetted and just run through and automatic translator. In the Russian version of the site, it's "Name (City)" for every team, regardless, even though Minsk's team is "HC Dynamo-Minsk" on all of their official sources. It's my personal inclination to go on a team-by-team basis to see what official usage is.--Львівське (говорити) 15:31, 18 May 2012 (UTC)

Wild8oar, it seems to me you have once again made a copy-paste move. This article (HC Lev (2010–12)) should be the OLD article with revision history dating back to July 2010 (the article I created back then), while "HC Lev" article should be a brand new one. I'm probably going to ask an admin to fix this. I'm sorry to say this, but I'm not happy at all about this. --IJK_Principle (talk) 21:48, 21 May 2012 (UTC)

The big deal is that the revision histories should "make sense" so to speak. At the moment they are swapped ("HC Lev (2010–12)" revision history dates back only to 17 May 2012 while "HC Lev" has the history of the old Lev Poprad article (dating back to July 2010)) and it should be the other way around. I'll ask an admin for advice - whether to leave it as it is or the articles should swap places. --IJK_Principle (talk) 22:03, 21 May 2012 (UTC)

The problem is that someone merged the histories of both articles and shouldn't have. Unfortunately that meant that Wild8oar had to then split out the old team info into this page. As long as the edit summary left said that is what he was doing then attribution is pretty much covered. -DJSasso (talk) 12:28, 24 May 2012 (UTC)

I agree that this is not fully sorted out yet. I also think that this discussion should be with the new club and not here. Also, there is still the naming issue. All evidence (i.e. the logo) points to the fact that the new club is called HC Lev Praha, which we should reflect in the article name. Also, the roster template has recently been renamed Lev Prague roster, which is somehow inconsistent. I suggest to wait a bit until there are official sources, such as a new web site, and then reconsider the naming of all Lev-related articles. All right then, we'll wait until we have more info. Also since you mentioned the logo - the logo of the old Lev Poprad in the article is actually Lev Hradec Králové's logo, I mentioned it in the description of File:Hc lev.jpg. The logo of Lev Poprad can be seen here for example: [1]. Note how there is no "Hradec Králové" there and also a small detail - there is no small black "tail" near where the orange crown is.
