Talk:Gypsy Sun Experience

Untitled edit

Nothing stated in this article is in any way verified. There is external evidence these people played a couple of shows as Gypsy Sun Experience, but nothing to suggest it is an actual band that has done anything other than a couple of small gigs. No real contention of meeting WP:MUSIC. Tagged for verification.--Isotope23 20:38, 26 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • The allmusic biography of Billy Cox confirms that he and Mitch Mitchell play together sometimes as the Gypsy Sun Experience. I don't know if this Usenet thread [1] or this one [2] count as reliable sources but they seem to confirm the group played some dates in 1999. I don't know how well Lexis/Nexis covered the more regional newpapers back that far, certainly 1999 is pre-google. I think there is enough to say these musicians have played together under this name. The 2006 tribute album is still crystal ball so I left the fact tag there, but I don't see any reason to dump the whole article at this point.Thatcher131 02:03, 27 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
  • I took out the unsourced crystal-balling. It shouldn't be there unless there is a source.--Isotope23 16:54, 2 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Possible merge edit

It seems verifiability issues are prompting this. That's not an issue, it's notable on its own and I oppose any merging. --badlydrawnjeff talk 16:49, 2 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • I think verifiability is an issue here. The problem is that there are no reliable sources to suggest this actually exists as a real band. From all appearances this was a short-lived "band" that played a few live shows together and is now defunct. Right now this article isn't even close to adequately sourced.--Isotope23 14:08, 19 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
    • Sorry about the presumptive redirect, didn't realise anyone had commented. basically what happened was one of the members of the old Hendrix outfit commented that he and some others were starting up this band. They never did. Hence, there is no source as to the band's existence. The name does appear in conjunction with this intention (which is presented as fact), but the point is this band does not exist ouside of one or two abortive college appearances. I invite anyone (bdj, for instance) to show me otherwise: viz, tangible, substantial, verifiable evidence that proves this group actually exists beyond a stated intention to form it, which was clearly never carried through. Otherwise I vote it should be redirected and pronto. If Isotope would weigh in further on this specific issue, we can maybe get some consensus. Eusebeus 16:54, 19 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
      • Well, I recall the AfD, I thought we had a billboard article on another AfD (I think it's been attempte dto be deleted twice, but I can't find the other AfD). The AfD linked, however, seems to have enough to go on notability-wise as well as verifiability - we know they exist, and we have things to look at to reference it. --badlydrawnjeff talk 17:06, 19 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
        • I only remember 1 AfD off the top of my head. My personal opinion is this should be redirected/merged to Jimi Hendrix Experience for now with no predjudice against breaking it back out later if reliable sources are found that add a bit more context, because right now as Eusebeus has stated I don't see anything that shows these guys ever really performed together as a band.--Isotope23 17:12, 19 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
        • Yea, I disagree with bdj. I cannot find any reliable evidence that they exist, so this should be a redirect. there was only 1 afd to my knowledge and I have listed the WP:V issues there in great detail, going through the online refs one by one. Eusebeus 17:42, 19 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
          • Maybe a RfC to solicit opinions on a merge would be in order rather than relying on the opinions of the only 3 editors who appear to be watching this article?--Isotope23 17:50, 19 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
sure. Eusebeus 18:07, 19 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

The Gypsy Sun Experience is a real band, but have not played in some time. Billy Cox on bass, Gary Serkin on guitar. If Mitch Mitchell does not play drums, they use Jimmy Otey, who used to play with James Brown, Little Richard, and others back in the 60s. I see no reason to redirect this to the Jimi Hendrix Experience wiki, as the Gypsy Sun Experiences is NOT the "Jimi Hendrix Experience". The Billy Cox Bio at CMT.com mentions this as well: http://www.cmt.com/artists/az/cox_billy/bio.jhtml

Redirect edit

Ok, someone removed the merge tag, but the fact remains that this article has gone unverified and unsubstantiated for well over a year. A lengthy AfD discussion has brought no evidence to light that they actually existed (see my comments above) and so this fails Wikipedia's policy of verifiability. I am restoring my original redirect and would suggest that any restoration be accompanied by something that can satisfy the serious WP:V concerns that are outstanding. Thanks.
