It is correct to say that Gurwitsch is a variation of Gurvich, but it should be noted that it is actually the same name because phonetic transcription from the Cyrillic written languages comes out differently in various languages. Wherever the person has their name transcribed for the first time, that transcription sticks. Gurvich is the English transcription, Gurwitsch the German one, French would probably be Gourvitch. In the Balkans, the -vich ending (meaning son in the slavic languages) mostly comes up as -vic. 121.209.56.202 (talk) 05:18, 25 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
