Change Name
editThe film is set for release in 2007. Please accept the change. Prince Godfather 20:15, 24 November 2006 (UTC)In this year the best film in bollywood.
Based on
editWhoever it's based on, the fact that there has been media speculation as well as a general outline of Ratnam's and others from the film's views on the subject means everything needs to be taken into account. According to one article on an interview of his [1]. "Ratnam says Guru could represent “anybody who has grown big in life. There are different shades in the film, which we all can relate to”. and "I would say that it is not a biography.... It could be the story of several people. It could be the spirit of several people and that is what we are trying to capture. And in trying to capture that mood you keep it in a setting, which is realistic. Therefore, there are a lot of things which you cannot connect to." ShimShem 20:05, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
- To be honest, who it's based on (if on anyone) is really irrelevant.ShimShem 20:46, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
I Agree
editThe movie accurately potrays Indian business and the Indian market. I would strongly urge everyone to see the movie for themselves. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.242.232.15 (talk) 01:07, 14 January 2007 (UTC).
Real life comparision
editCan all characters of Guru be mapped?
If have few obivious mapping
- Guru kant desai - Dhirubhai Ambani
- Sujata - Mrs. Kokilaben (w/o) dhiru bhai
- A parsi textile baron - Nusli Wadia [citation needed]
- Independent (a news paper) - Indian Express
- Shyam Saxena - Arun Shourie[citation needed]
- Manikdas Gupta - Ramnath Goenka[citation needed]
Going through wiki page on dhirubhai I found striking similarities with this movie, like Guru's father was a teacher in small village of gujarat, ditto with dhirubhai whose father was also a teacher. Guru goes to Turkey at age 16, dhirubhai goes to yemen at same age. Guru clashes with an influential parsi textile merchant, dhirubhai had similar reportedly[citation needed] problems with influential textile merchant Nusli Wadia[citation needed]. There are many more similarities shown in movie.
I don't know details of dirubhai's life, so if a person who knows this histroy in details he should help in completing above mapping. It will be an interesting read.
By the way, nice review. spacejuncky 08:11, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
- You can also spot Rajiv gandhi in the movie. Ramnath goenka never brought up Dhirubhai Ambani, so it is different from film version. --Indianstar 20:26, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

Use Hindu-Arabic Numbering System
editHi! I just would like to inform that using the Hindu Arabic Numerals in article (such as crore, lakh) would be better than using the International Numerals (like million, billion) as it is about the Indian film. By Piruty Pipaty (talk) 23:24, 16 June 2024 (UTC)
