Balance edit

This article speaks a great deal about Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow making Turkeminstan a more open society, reforms etc. It spends greater part of a paragraph talking about curing the personality cult of the dead and former president, only in passing mentioning the fact that there's also been "a giant golden statue of Berdimuhamedow riding a horse atop a white marble cliff" erected. It hardly reflects that almost a decade after he came to power, Reporters Without Borders rank Turkeminstan as the 178th worst country out of 180 for press freedom, ahead only of North Korea and Eritrea (2016 World Press Freedom Index). It talks about being elected but not what that means. "Since its independence in 1991, none of the country’s elections have been free or fair. President Berdymukhammedov has maintained all the means and patterns of repression established by his predecessor, Saparmurat Niyazov," states Freedom House (Turkmenistan, Freedom in the World Report 2016). They also point out that "all seven of his challengers were minor figures associated with the ruling Democratic Party of Turkmenistan". And so on. /Julle (talk) 19:25, 28 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

More specifically, this refers to the material under the heading "President of Turkmenistan". I've also removed some quotes where he's allowed to shape the view of himself, which is unsuitable for a neutral encyclopedia. /Julle (talk) 19:50, 28 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

This article is overall in dire need of sections such as Criticism, Personality Cult and Human Rights Violations. Otherwise it looks as if the body of the article was written by Turkmenistan's Secret Service or embassy staff and is a definite example of NPOV violation Denver45 (talk) 07:18, 4 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Making it clearer whether Berdimuhamedow is alive or not? edit

This article ends with a report that this man is dead, alongside denials from people we have no idea of the trustworthiness of—especially after being told about totalitarianism, low press freedom, etc. being at play. The article doesn't currently tell about anything that he's done after this date, which was almost a year ago, so it makes it feel as if it's an open question as to whether he's alive or not. (The responses and appearances attributed to him re the 2020 coronavirus pandemic in Turkmenistan suggest he is.) Can this be resolved—maybe by changing the heading? "Health" suggests it's legitimately part of his medical history. Or is the whole thing WP:UNDUE? —97.113.106.210 (talk) 03:42, 18 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

Quotation marks edit

There are quotations marks at any time the word "president" or "accusation" is used in this article. This is highly partisan and indicative of bias on behalf of the other. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:44:201:8F00:8915:62FF:B454:2319 (talk) 16:57, 3 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

They were introduced earlier today. I have reverted that change and warned the user.--Ymblanter (talk) 20:47, 3 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Missing relevant info edit

This article appears to be missing all of its links to other Wikipedia entries, for example that time he renamed all the days of the week:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2002_renaming_of_Turkmen_months_and_days_of_week

And missing relevant info like his book about his belief in Heavenly Horses:

https://www.rferl.org/a/turkmenistan-horses-akhal-teke-berdymukhammedov/24955104.html

Honestly this reads like somebody is deliberately downplaying just how eccentric and this man was.

Also it doesn't sufficiently discuss whether he is dead or not - I noticed there is already a discussion topic from 2 years ago asking for more information about whether he is alive or dead so could the editors please address this too. 192.0.182.43 (talk) 17:28, 17 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
