Title edit

This is purely speculative, so I relegate it to the talk page. I was just listening to the Clash's "Complete Control" and during a Guitar Solo, Joe Strummer shouts out "You're my guitar hero!" -- Epynephrin (talk) 15:31, 11 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Guitar Hero 3 controller for PlayStation 2 is different to others edit

I feel that it should be noted that the Guitar Hero 3 controller for PlayStation 2 is a Kramer Striker guitar replica instead of a Gibson Les Paul replica as is the case for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii. Given that the Gibson Les Paul and the Kramer Striker are totally different, it should be noted that the controllers are different. Getting to a Guitar Hero featured topic edit

Given that we have presently 3 GAs (GHII, GH80s, GHIII) and can likely get the series (this page) and the first game up to spec, I think we should consider if there's a possibility of making the Guitar Hero article series a featured topic, including the song lists. I am putting the first game's song list article up at peer review to see if there's a possibility of it qualifying as a featured list, which would help to promote the rest of the articles towards a larger featured topic. --MASEM 17:40, 7 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

I've gotten feedback on a peer review for the GH1 song list and it loks like there's potential for this list to go to a Featured List (thus likely for the other song lists). A few things to correct, but otherwise this is a helpful step. --MASEM 15:55, 16 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Star Power redirect edit

Star Power should not redirect here. It is far too generic a phrase and can be meant as Star power or StarPower, which both link elsewhere. It's far too ambiguous to point to Guitar Hero. Besides, there are no links to Star Power, so we are pretty thinking anybody who types in "Star Power" into the search box means to come here. Far better to point it to the disambiguation page (Star power) and have them decide at that point what they want to see. Bssc81 (talk) 05:46, 17 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Be on watch for GH: The Beatles edit

An exec of the company that owns the rights on the Beatles works has recently stated that he'd like to help bring a Beatles-themed GH game to the market. This is not any validation that the supposeded "Guitar Hero: The Beatles" exists. People have been adding this without any other source, so while the mention of this desire to create one is worthwhile to not, keep an eye out for those adding the game way too prematurely. --MASEM 22:15, 18 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

GAN on hold edit

  • "the 1960s to the present" - "present", not "the present", is fine
  • The first ref in the lead isn't really necessary
  • "earning over $1 billion" - what currency?
  • Please move free images to Commons, if possible
  • "Instead, developing would go to Neversoft" - how was Neversoft chosen?
  • "Billboard announced" - magazine titles go in italcis
  • "r Hero game for the Nintendo DS" - you don't need to wlink the DS every time you mention it
  • "Screenshot of Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock during "Battle Mode"." - other image captions didn't contain wlinks; be consistent
  • "and a rating from three to five stars, depending on his/her overall performance." - you sure it's not from 1 to 5?
  • Check italics for newspapers in ref publishers
  • "Bang Camaro's popularity increased after their song "Push Push (Lady Lightning)" appeared in Guitar Hero II." - any others, or were they the only ones who did so?
  • "and some players complain of problems with latency." - ref?
  • "On 17 March 2008, Gibson sued six retailers — " - you can't have spaces around an em dash (per WP:DASH)...maybe use a semi colon; a dash here isn't that appropriate...
  • "Subsequently, on 21 March 2008, Gibson has also" - remove the "has"
  • "spokesperson has stated " - same again

uh, why would you take the time to note simple grammatical errors instead of just fixing them yourself? On a serious note, some sections are rife with grammatical errors and other qualities not fit for a GA (especially the paragraph about the carabiner). This may be due in large part to changes and contributions since the GA status was applied. However, a lot of editing needs to be done to really get it (back) to GA quality. -Jaardon (talk) 19:42, 22 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Getting the GA series to an FT edit

We are close to having enough articles to qualify at a Featured Topic:

I am discounting Aerosmith, On Tour, and GH4 for now (explain in a bit). For an FT, you need about 20% or more of the articles at FA/FL (with 80s songlist, that gives us 4 of 11, or about 35%, and I would get GH3's list up to FL before doing an FT, making it 5 of 11 or 45%). We also need each article that can be at GA or FA, and for those that can't (both Mobile and Carabiner), at least performing a peer review. Thus, all we need to do is spiffy up Mobile and Carabener and get those PR'd while I help bring 80s and GH3's lists through FL to get to being a FT.

As for Aerosmith, On Tour, and GH4, I asked the FTC page on this, and they suggested that its fine not to include those, but once the games are out, those articles are expected to get to GA-minimum quality within 3 months of release and then the FT re-evaluated to add them into the topic. We've been doing good on tracking Aerosmith and On Tour's development stuff, so I doubt this will be a problem.

Anyone up for tackling Mobile and Carabiner to get these to spec? --MASEM 15:56, 6 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Also, it would be nice if someone with graphic skillz could make an SVG graphic of the guitar controller (w/ the 5 colored buttons plainly obvious) to go along with it. :) --MASEM 15:58, 6 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

GHIV Article created edit

While it's been a redirect until now, there's enough information coming out now to fairly give a full Guitar Hero IV article, so we should consider if bits and pieces can be moved to there if needed. --MASEM 00:01, 13 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Should Cultural impact and In popular culture be moved to a new page? edit

Should the sections Cultural impact and In popular culture be moved to a new page? I think it would be a good time to do it since these sections keep growing with cruft. --8bitJake (talk) 19:19, 9 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

I think we just need to keep the cruft down. There's no major size issues yet with the page, and as long as we keep it to notable appearances as are listed presently (I just did some edits) it should be fine; at worst if there's many more that are added, we can swap out less notable ones (eg, if it's used on multiple talk shows, we can replace the Ellen D. mention with a common phrase). --MASEM 19:23, 9 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

About the song lists... edit

I'm SICK of the way that they're ordered. I say we put them back in setlist order, because it's hard to tell what will be/is where and it's ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE to figure which songs are encores. Well, in Guitar Hero: Aerosmith anyways. you're not colorblind, it's colored this way. Or maybe you are. Misteryoshi 17:43, 28 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Well I think the lists need to be in alphabetical order to qualify for Featured List. I agree with you however, I'd prefer to see the songs listed in the order that is given to us by the games themselves. --DecimatorQ (talk) 17:36, 8 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Then I suggest adding a link at the bottom of the page that shows the setlist in it's play order. BreakerLOLZ (talk) 02:29, 15 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
All the lists are sortable: there's a little gadget next to each row header that sorts on that column; all the set lists can be discovered this way. --MASEM 02:33, 15 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Another thing about the song lists... edit

I think we need per-game lists and a list of every song featured in the series. I believe that the latter would be useful. This can be incorporated into the above suggestion by having the former lists in tier order and the latter list in alphabetical order. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 140.254.57.81 (talk) 23:11, 26 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

export audio of guitar hero? edit

hi, i've got some questions about copyrights and more concerning the guitar hero series: since you purchase the game, including the audio tracks, is it forbidden to export/ extract the audio tracks (like only guitar, only bass, only vocals+drums or the whole song) or are you allowed to do that? because you could also just record and save them and you'd have the complete song without purchasing it. maybe it would be cool to be offered guitar hero versions where the songs are included as audio, so you can put it in your cd player or as files on the dvd, which will be of course more expensive but allowing everyone to easily use the audio tracks of the different instruments... it'd also be cool to be given the chance to purchase the audio tracks of the songs at the band's website or wherever... i mean, isn't it obvious that people could record this audio tracks and upload it so others will be able to download it, because you can't purchase or even somehow get the tracks from somewhere? unrealshade 195.14.222.112 (talk) 01:50, 22 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

These questions are inappropriate for Wikipedia. However, it should be noted that there are Guitar Hero packs available at iTunes for purchase. --MASEM 01:55, 22 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
i think it is appropriate for wikipedia, because using the audio tracks of the instruments is a very interesting aspect for musicians, who might want to purchase the game in order to hear the instruments seperately and to play the song accurately. at least, wouldn't it be the only way to hear the instruments of songs seperately (since you cannot purchase them seperatley)? thanks for your answer, though. unrealshade 195.14.222.112 (talk) 02:56, 22 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
Talk pages on Wikipedia are meant to be discussing improving the article, not a general forum for the topic of the article. --MASEM 03:32, 22 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
thank you, i'm quite aware of that. in my opinion it would improve the article, if it said that you are able to listen to the guitar and bass / rhythm guitar seperately, because it's an interesting aspect for musicians (as explained above). so i think that should be in there. maybe this is one of the reasons why guitar hero is so famous. furthermore it would be good to know if you could export the audio tracks to listen more closely to the audio tracks of the seperate instruments. since i don't know if this is possible or even allowed, i wrote these questions. i wrote that not only for gain of personal knowledge but also to write this aspect in the article. so in the end we will finally be able to do that for the sake of the article's quality. sorry if i didn't point that out clearly enough formerly. if you don't share this opinion with me, feel free to tell me your reason why you think this aspect would not improve the article. unrealshade 213.196.193.199 (talk) 17:01, 22 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
Well, if it answers your question, you can change the audio options (under Options) in every Guitar Hero game so that you can listen to the guitar track or the "band" track (a combination of rhythm/bass guitar, drums, and vocals) separately while you play that song. If playing practice mode, you can listen to the rhythm/bass guitar track or the "band" track (a combination of lead guitar, drums, and vocals) separately while you play that song. And if playing Co-Op mode, you can listen to both the lead guitar and rhythm/bass guitar track or the "band" track (drums and vocals) separately while you play that song. Note that you will need two players to actually play both tracks if playing Co-Op. And as far as I know, it is possible to replace the audio tracks and note charts in the game with your own in the PlayStation 2 version of Guitar Hero II. I just don't know if it is possible to export them. Either way, I still don't see how exactly will this improve an encyclopedia article. --Lightsup55 ( T | C ) 17:43, 22 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Scorehero? edit

I don't know how this would fit in, but shouldn't there be some mention of the website scorehero.com, a website for tracking guitar hero scores that has over 250,000 users?

One of the leaders of Harmonix has donated $2,000 to the site, and members of the site have also been specially invited to beta-test games, and Neversoft/Harmonix both have registered accounts on the site, and regularly post news there.

Here is the thread pertaing to their beta-test og GH3: http://www.scorehero.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=19183

Here is the thread about gh:wt : http://www.scorehero.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=76943

Also, all of the best guitar hero players use scorehero to track their scores, such as iamchris4life who recently 100%ed Through the Fire and Flames.

Anyways, I think It might go under Public Reaction or something.

This might be a good idea, but we need sources independent of scorehero itself to include; that is, we need to show why the site is notable here. (I believe they exist, just a matter of finding them). --MASEM 01:07, 19 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Over-charted edit

Shouldn't it be noted that Guitar Hero is over-charted to hell? You play notes that don't exist within the song. That's why Rock Band is "easier," because it doesn't make up notes. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.60.226.203 (talk) 22:12, 7 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

I don't know how it would necessarily fit it, but before we could add such a mention, we'd need a reliable source that says this. --MASEM 22:27, 7 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

This is only true for Guitar Hero III, and they have not added in extra notes, just overused three note chords and Hammer on's/Pull off's. 129.250.211.6 (talk) 14:30, 9 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

You might be referring to the notes they throw in to make it more fun. For example, TTFAF had notes that were computer generated and not played on a guitar (particularly during the Synth Death). They just do that to make it more challenging. (Not that it's not hard enough already, but still...) Tubularbells1993 (talk) 14:13, 27 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

i have read that they did not overchart, but that they have guys who listen to the songs really carefully and pluck every note that they here. that makes it seem overcharted cause you cant casuelly hear all those notes. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.192.103.159 (talk) 17:45, 13 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Carabiner edit

I feel that this has a few issues: First off, I feel that teh Carabiner title should have its own completely rewritten article. It seems rather choppy as it is written on this page. Also, we should source the info on it. Tubularbells1993 (talk) 18:08, 26 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

It did have an article, but that was pretty much all the information that was available for it - there was no review of critique of it. As such, it fits better in the main article. --MASEM 18:15, 26 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
Okay, but I still feel it should be rewritten or downsized at least a bit and sourced. Also, why is it still hyperlinked when the only place it goes is back to this article? I think I'll change that... Tubularbells1993 (talk) 14:08, 27 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
To make it fit even better, we can eliminate some of that info because it does not seem to fit the flow of the article. Besides, we can also hyperlink elsewhere where its dimensions can be described. I don't think it should be described here, especially if it can't be sourced.Tubularbells1993 (talk) 14:22, 30 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Beatles RB
Rock Revolution
Ultimate Band
