Drugs

Under the section on drugs, it says flows have now been diverted to Mali. Sanitized History

This article is very consciously dishonest, seems to me. Amilcar Cabrál's name doesn't appear even once, let alone the entire liberation struggle. Simply amazing. Was this information all taken from the U.S. State Department or the CIA or the British Foreign Office or Lisboa?

I don't know who wrote this article, but they have a lot to answer for. No excuses. You are letting innocent readers down. Perhaps that's the intention. Sanitizing and censorship of facts certainly do not belong on Wikipedia. I don't know how you think this article would stay like this, given what Wikipedia is. And maybe a Wikipedia editor might think I'm over-reacting here, but then then mightn't know just how much this present article is leaving out. It's much like leaving the American Revolution and George Washington and Thomas Jefferson completely out of an article on U.S. history, for instance.

The only reason I don't crawl all over this article with stubs and everything is because I don't quite know my way around Wikipedia and am busy with other things right now. Consider this article being put on notice for NPOV. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pazouzou (talk • contribs)

Yes, I agree that the history chapters are not neutral enough. Although Cabral is now mentioned, some facts are stressed very much (e.g. the assasinations on collaborators with the Portuese in 1974), while others aren't even mentioned (like the Pidjiguiti massacres committed by the Portuguese in 1957 and 59). Drug Trafficking

According to BBC, Guinea-Bissau has a major drug trafficking problem. [1] Jumping cheese 05:44, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

Channel 4 news in the UK ran a long feature tonight (19/7/07) on the issue of drug trafficking, and also that there is an epidemic of crack cocaine abuse amongst the citizens there now too. Seems that it definitely warrants a mention here. LouiseCooke

So go for it re the trafficking problems, I dont think a use epidemic locally is notable to include though as this could be said for many, many countries starting with the US, SqueakBox 18:29, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

The Vieira Years

It seems to me that there's an error or a misunderstanding in the history of the PAIGC's relation to Vieira. According to many sources (e.g. http://www.afrol.com/articles/32943) Vieira joined the presidential elections of 2005 as an independent candidate, because of many differences with the PAIGC majority and its leadership. In the article it is written: "Vieira was a candidate for one of the factions of the PAIGC". What is true? Was there a new party, that arose from a PAIGC faction? Another expression that leads to confusion: "Viera's party, PAIGC, made further gains, to secure 67 of 100 seats, in parliamentary elections in November 2008." As they were parliamentary elections, they don't have anything to do with the president, but the article still makes the PAIGC "Vieiras party", although that time the differences between Vieira and the party's parlamentary group even became worse. Maybe he was still a party member, but he had no real influence on the decisions anymore. Once I changed that sentence by removing that attribute (see http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Guinea-Bissau&diff=prev&oldid=282626146), but it was changed by someone else to a previous version, along with other edits. I don't want to reedit again without giving other editors (like Jomifica) the opportunity to discuss that issue here.--Zebaba (talk) 14:03, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

Conversions in infoboxes

education

It is astonishing that the post-colonial history of education in Guinea-Bissau - from the literacy campaign inspired by Paulo Freire to the creation of by now 4 universities is absent from this article. As I am not really a specialist on Guinea-B, I hope someone else will take this up. -- Aflis (talk) 17:59, 8 November 2010 (UTC)

When were the borders resolved

So the history says that in the early period ( 16-18th century ) foreign control was limited to outposts on the coast. The history then jumps to the revolutionary struggle of the 1960's. At some point ( my guess would be the second half of the 1800's ), European control in western africa spread from coastal outputs to all of the interior. At some point, the inland boundaries of this territory would have been resolved between the Portugese and French and possibly other colonising powers. When and how were the current artificial boundaries of this country determined ? Are these boundaries disputed ? Some information about this from someone more knowledgeable than me would be useful.Eregli bob (talk) 11:02, 14 April 2012 (UTC)

Mention of the 2012 Coup D'état

I found it very odd when reading the article that there is very little mention of the 2012 coup d'état. Seeing as that event lead to political instability in the country it seems only right to include more than a snippet about it on this page. In fact, in February the United Nations passed yet another resolution about it's concern of the coup d'état had on the country. I would edit the page myself, however I am fairly inexperienced when it comes to the writing guidelines of Wikipedia. - antipolar 04:31, 6 September 2013 (UTC)

Demonym differential

In the infobox on this page, the demonym is listed as "Bissau-Guinean", but in the article, the term "Guinea-Bissauan" is used. Can we just adopt a single demonym for consistent use throughout the article? smileguy91^talk 17:13, 24 February 2015 (UTC)

There are two inaccuracies in the Infobox. Embalo is president-elect, so he has not been inaugurated yet. Imbali has been prime minister for eleven days, but his predecessor Aristides Gomes has regained the position due to pressure from ECOWAS. Religion Discrepancies
