Why are half these names in ALL-CAPS? Evercat 02:41, 21 Dec 2003 (UTC)

The following remark was hidden in an HTML comment. I'm moving it here to make it more visible:

"lots of these are conversions or just plain designator changes e.g. Luce. I'm looking for additional information and will update. Feel free to add. StinKerr"

French frigates on list edit

Why are FS Forbin (D620) and FS Chevalier Paul (D621) losted as DDG? Both are frigates as stated by the French government. I will remove for now assuming this is an error. G. R. Allison (talk) 07:53, 10 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

They are not. For the French there are two types of frigates. One is the First class given the pennant D (Destroyer) and the other the second rank or ordinary frigates with pennant starting with F (Frigate).Bcs09 (talk) 18:13, 20 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

i've deelted the Spruances they are not DDG, afaik are GM only ship with medium/long range SAM, the other type of missiles don't qualifies. for same i deleted the soviet Kildin class. also most of chinese ships are not qualifyed i not deleted this for now waitng comments — Preceding unsigned comment added by 95.239.221.2 (talk) 17:03, 18 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

It's likely that someone assumed that the ships refitted with VLS were capable of launching Standard ER. However, Conway's indicates this refit was only for Tomahawk and ASROC. In any case, none were reclassified. RobDuch (talk) 02:56, 13 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
agree only medium/long range SAM qualify; Francomemoria (talk) 09:24, 13 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

definition edit

i added anti-aircraft but this is not enough a DDG is designed for area air defense not only self defense i take out some classes that are not DDG Francomemoria (talk) 18:14, 12 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

i want writing some on the definition, i'm sorry for my english, the DDG is a USN ship classification, the G was/is used only for ships with the 3 T missiles (Talos, Terrier and Tartar) and for ships with the Standard Missiles, so for ships with area air defence missiles; we can for similarity classified as G ships that of the Nato and other US allies with the same missiles, we can also classified as G ships that with others western area air defence missile with comparable performances and dimensions like the Seaslug, Sea Dart, Masurca, Aster-30; i've some doubt that we can so classified ships with different missiles Francomemoria (talk) 17:22, 17 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
