Guðjón ÞórðarsonGudjon Thordarson – The WP:COMMONNAME in English is "Gudjon Thordarson", per all of the English-language references in the article. Wikiacc () 15:18, 23 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • Support per nomination. The Soccerbase link under "External links" depicts his name as Gudjon Thordarson. Each English Wikipedia main title header that contains fonts not found in the English alphabet should be considered on its own merits, with what may be considered to be passable diacritics, such as "Ą", "Đ", "Ę", "ı {Turkish i}", "Ł" or "ß {SS}" that at least resemble or appear to be sufficiently close to characters used in the English alphabet. However, fonts such as "ð" or "Þ" do not resemble any recognizable English characters. —Roman Spinner (talkcontribs) 18:05, 23 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose. Þ and ð are Latin letters (their Unicode names are LATIN CAPITAL LETTER THORN and LATIN SMALL LETTER ETH respectively), so they should be treated as such. --Filemon (talk) 11:18, 24 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose The current title is the correct version of his name in the Latin alphabet and I think transliteration should only be required where names originate in a language using a different alphabet. Number 57 11:19, 24 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
    • @Filemon and Number 57: The nomination is based on WP:NATURALNESS, not what is or isn't the Latin alphabet. Wikiacc () 14:51, 24 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
      • I prefer to keep the eth, thorn and diacritics and write the name as it should be. As long as there are redirects from the versions substituting them with d, o and th, there shouldn't be a problem. Number 57 15:39, 24 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • Comment Agree with the others above based on Wiki conventions to keep title as Icelandic name; however perhaps it would be useful to add the English translation in-text in the opening sentence? Not sure about the rules/past convention regarding this. For example, "Guðjón Þórðarson (transliterated as Gudjon Thordarson; born 14 September 1955) is an Icelandic former footballer and manager." Is that something that could work and be helpful? This is how it is done on Eiður Guðjohnsen's wiki page RedPatchBoys (talk) 18:09, 28 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
