Talk:Group Analytic Society

Latest comment: 6 years ago by InternetArchiveBot in topic External links modified

I am contesting the speedy deletion of this article since the Group Analytic Society is not a company. It is a charitable institution that serves as a professional organisation for practitioners of group psychotherapy across the world. It is an essential part of the biography of S H Foulkes and of the history of the development of group psychotherapy in Europe and beyond.

I have cleaned the article up, but it would be very helpful if you could provide references. Thanks. Neil  20:44, 3 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your help with this article. I will add further information, but I've now added a full reference to the quote and supplied another external link.

The Group Analytic Society is not a company but a charitable organisation to promote Group Psychotherapy across the world. It has a rich and important place in history and development of group psychotherapy in the UK and in other countries and this history deserves to be recorded.

I note that your criticism could also be directed towards other charitable institutions to promote learning and the development of an area of practice or learning that have been listed on Wikipedia for much longer than the Group Analytic Society without being questioned - in relation to psychotherapy the Tavistock Clinic is one such.

I could give you more examples on Wikipedia if asked.

The Royal Society is another listing on Wikipedia that is no different, in terms of aims and organisation, than the Group Analytic Society. There are many more such organisations listed on Wikipedia.

Why pick on GAS? I would suggest that, if this page were to be deleted, all listings of similar organisations should also be deleted. But just try to remove the article for the Royal Sociaty, and wait for the flak to develop..........
