Semantic distinctions
editAlthough Grinspan syndrome was first described as a triad that includes oral lichen planus, there is a distinction between oral lichen planus, which is idiopathic, and other lichenoid lesions, which are presumed to be associated with exogenous sensitizing agents. It has not been established whether hypertension and diabetes on one hand or the medications used for their management on the other are the true components of the triad.
The statement "Oral lichen planus is thought to be a result of the drugs used for treatment of hypertension and diabetes mellitus but this is not confirmed." would more accurately be stated as " Oral lichenoid mucositis..."
