editGood job on this. This might be close to FA level with a better copyedit and some style fixes, and I suggest getting ahold of the book about the film for further expansion. --badlydrawnjeff talk 21:05, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
- I'll try and get the book if I can ever find it at a local library or if it comes down below $10-15 on Amazon. Good work Ibaranoff24! --Nehrams2020 22:02, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
- I own the book; what exactly would you like to have up there? Nqnpipnr 23:37, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
- I'd like to see some more information on the development and the screenwriting process for both of the films. Any notable production info that isn't already there should be added. The "Directing," "Special effects" and "Music" sections seem a little lax. Is there anything in the book that can be added to those sections? Did Tarantino and Rodriguez say anything about doing their own cinematography? (Ibaranoff24 18:52, 1 June 2007 (UTC))
- I don't know exactly how to expand on the writing process; few people rarely ever describe it, as it combines too many different events to describe. But yes, I could definitely add to the special effects section at some point. DacknotRick 22:30, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
release date for DVD?
editi was just at the movie rental place and they said that something called the "Grindhouse Experience" is coming out in July and it's a 5 DVD boxset. Makes sense. 1 for death Proof, 1 for Planet Terror, 1 for Machete, 1 for Werewolf Women (40 minutes filmed remember) and Hobo with a a\shotgun (talks of movie), and finally maybe the last one for mini movies of the other fake trailers.
Note: I have no real proof but do you think it's possible?
Yeah, that's not it. It's a 5-disc set with 20 exploitation films: --http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000P6R9I0/102-9945484-0346512. --YellowTapedR 05:18, 18 June 2007 (UTC)
Splitting Death Proof; Planet Terror (CLOSED)
editThis article is getting to long. There could be a main article about the idea and more, but the plot, cast and other information should be in separate articles. --Steinninn 14:07, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
- Disagree -- There can be different sections within the article about both movies, but splitting it up just doesn't make any sense. When it was first released, it was one movie with two different sections. The films may be "Planet Terror" and "Death Proof," but they were released under the banner of "Grindhouse." Let's do the same here. 70.108.158.175 03:19, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
Disagree -- Isn't the purpose of WIKI to report how things ARE... not how we would like to see them? The fact is that this movie was released as a single film CALLED GRINDHOUSE. Even if it gets split in Europe, that doesn't mean the movie still wasn't released as one part here. The movie was released as a single film/product here with two stories "Death Proof" and "Planet Terror". We reported on it, how things were. We can't go back in time and change that. Nuff said.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.9.103.208 (talk • contribs) 16:46, 15 May 2007 (UTC).- Disagree — There's not nearly enough information to warrant three articles. (Ibaranoff24 16:34, 14 May 2007 (UTC))
- Agree I support a split, especially if they end up being released in Europe separately. I disagree with the above, I think there's enough info.--badlydrawnjeff talk 16:37, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
- Disagree The article probably won't be expanded too much further except for a DVD release section and updated foreign box office numbers. Much of the information and current box office numbers are for both features with the film. I don't think it's necessary to split the article into two or three articles. --Nehrams2020 19:31, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
- Agree I guess I should also vote. The article is 59 kilobytes long, and so some kind of a split should be done. And yes, the films will be split in Europe. --Steinninn 12:17, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
- Disagree If films like Kill Bill and the such aren't split into two, I don't know why this one should be. Andrzejbanas 06:03, 16 May 2007 (UTC)
- Disagree It's one film, Grindhouse. It was envisioned, produced, and released as a single film.97.81.79.148 04:25, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
I think we should close the vote. Five out of seven should be enough. If the article gets longer sometime in the future someone might want to start a new vote. But not in the near future tough. --Steinninn 20:41, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
- I don't care much for wikipedian "politics", so despite this vote being closed, I'm going to ad my opinion. I just came home from watching death proof (i'm in europe), and wanted to look it up on wikipedia. I was pretty confused by the redirect here, my spontaneous thought was "what, this isn't the movie I want to read about". In the screening I saw, there was no mention in any way about it being part of a pair. They did show the trailer for planet terror before though, which is shown seperately here as well, but nowhere did it say that it had any special connection to the film i was about to watch. For anyone who have seen them seperately like this, the article is very confusing and uninformative. It makes more sense to have one article about Death proof, one about Planet terror, and one about Grindhouse. Especially, I don't think it makes sense to have one "production" headline which discusses two completely separate productions?? 84.217.129.165 22:02, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
- ^^^ There is nothing confusing about this Wiki. It's fine the way it is. It does not need to be split.
- yeah, it's funny how they think they can close a topic but they can't can they? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.250.65.158 (talk) 20:58, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
Grindhouse (the films) split, to be re-released
edit- From the Guardian. — WiseKwai 10:14, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
- This isn't news. It's been known for a while that Grindhouse will be released as individual films in the UK. The article makes no mention of the films being re-released separately, however. (Ibaranoff24 02:27, 31 May 2007 (UTC))
- Yes it does. Read on:

- "But following its flop release in the US this year, Weinstein ordered that the two sections - Tarantino's Death Proof and Rodriguez's Planet Terror - be expanded and re-released as separate pictures. He has been defending the decision ever since.
- Weinstein's abrupt arrival appeared to be prompted in part by remarks made by Kurt Russell, who plays the role of Stuntman Mike in the film. Russell admitted he had yet to see the new version. But he added: "I'm disappointed for every audience that they won't get the full Grindhouse experience.
- 'For now these movies are going off on their own. But my prediction is that 20 years from now the people will want to see these movies back the way they should be. Two movies together, the complete three-and-a-half hour ride.'
- The producer hit back, insisting that the new versions were superior to those on offer in Grindhouse. "What you see when you see the new Planet Terror and Death Proof is Robert Rodriguez making a pure Robert Rodriguez movie and Quentin Tarantino making a pure Quentin Tarantino movie. What they did in cutting those films down for Grindhouse was a mistake. It removed the very essence of both movies."
- Seems to me there's some useful information in this article that in good faith I thought was helpful to the article's primary editors. — WiseKwai 03:12, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

- Actually, the article doesn't make any mention of the two expanded films being re-released theatrically in the U.S. And there are no other articles saying that will happen either. The section should definitely be removed.—Preceding unsigned comment added by YellowTapedR (talk • contribs) 06:19, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
- The full-length Death Proof is being released in Europe right now, and is in the pipeline for some limited US releases later in the summer, according to the release page on IMDb. Don't know about Planet Terror, though. If it's going to be released separately, it should have its own IMDb entry, which I can't find. — WiseKwai 05:18, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
- Any word on if the full release or split release will be shown in Australia? --Mikecraig 01:16, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
- The information is dated, Grindhouse looks like it will not have a cinema release in the UK, I think the information should be updated to reflect this. User:stingerblue 14:37, 3 September 2007 (BST)
Werewolf, Don't and Hobo
editJust in case anybody asks, the book "Grindhouse: The Sleaze-Filled Saga of an Exploitation Double Feature" does feature information regarding the making of Machete and Thanksgiving, but doesn't feature anything regarding the other three trailers.Nqnpipnr 00:01, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

editDoesn't second episode take place before first one? As I got it, in the end of the movie he gets the scar.
- No. He has the scar in both halves of Death Proof. See: [1] (Ibaranoff24 12:06, 4 July 2007 (UTC))

Fair use rationale for Image:Death Proof DVD.jpg
editImage:Death Proof DVD.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
Death Proof DVD cover
editAt this point, there is no need for DVD covers to be featured in the article. Actually, I would generally not suggest using DVD covers in Wikipedia articles. Even if you have a section discussing DVD releases of the film, there really isn't any need for people to see what the covers look like - they can go on websites like Amazon.com for things like that. Having images like that in articles doesn't improve its quality, and may be questioned by FAC reviewers. (Ibaranoff24 17:36, 4 August 2007 (UTC))
- I don't see how it's any different from having poster images on the article. --(trogga) 22:13, 11 August 2007 (UTC)
Dr. Felix
editI personally know the man who played Dr. Felix, and he is not a cuban american entrepreneur. If you search "Felix Sabates" on IMDb you can find a profile on him. The man who plays him is an E.R. Doctor in Houston Texas, he has some friends in the film industry allowing him to be in films such as Spy Kids 2 and Grindhouse as well as being an executive producer on Captiva Island 95'. He has a wife and three daughters, two of which were in Spy Kids 2 as well. I have deleted the hyperlink to the false page but im getting tired of it so could everyone just stop!!!
Movie Movie similarities, coincidence?
editI am curious if either director mentioned Movie Movie (1978) as being even a partial inspiration for the format of Grindhouse. I have not seen either film (yet), but they are both double-feature format with fake trailers in between. Movie Movie spoofs the 1930s musical genre. — Eoghanacht talk 20:47, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
- Completely different. Movie Movie is 105 minutes long, and Planet Terror and Death Proof were actual, feature-length films. Grindhouse is an actual double feature, wheras the two segments of Movie Movie are about an hour long per story. (Ibaranoff24 02:54, 25 September 2007 (UTC))
Time for a split?
editI know this idea was rejected several months ago. But given that one film is out on DVD, and the other will follow soon, it looks like from here on out, the two films will be regarded as separate entities. It looks like Grindhouse will from now on be split in real life.
In addition, this is a very large article, more than double what Wikipedia recommends. It needs to be carved up.
Here's what I suggest:
- Give Planet Terror and Death Proof their own articles. Move specific information about each film to these articles. (EDIT: Looks like Death Proof has its own article now)
- Keep the Grindhouse article, but make it primarily about the theatrical release.
I may start doing something in my sandbox, figuring out how to adequately split this article. Any suggestions?--Fightingirish 14:52, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
- Okay, I went ahead and started an article for Planet Terror, and added to the already existing Death Proof article. I added information from the main Grindhouse article to these pages, and in the process converted the plot summaries of the two features to brief synopsis in the main article. This cut away about 8kb. The previous summaries have been moved to the separate articles.--Fightingirish 16:54, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
- This is kind of ridiculous. Much of the exact same text has been copied over to the individual articles, so there's a lot of repetition between the three articles. It would be ideal to clean-up the individual film articles so that they have discussion on the production history specific to the individual films. There's a lot of info about each film on the individual articles that is relevent in the discussion of Grindhouse as a whole, as a double feature, but not necessarily relevent to the specific film in question, on both pages. (Ibaranoff24 02:58, 25 September 2007 (UTC))
Has it closed down or not? Nobody seems to know anything about this for real. Sources seem to be totally unavailable. --Nemissimo 07:02, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
Seperate DVDs
edit- Death Proof and Planet Terror were released separately on DVD, a decision that has sparked debate from fans, with many being upset that the individual films were not released as a double feature, as they had been theatrically, and that the trailers have been omitted from both discs, and some have called for a boycott of the DVDs.
Are there any better sources for the "boycott" statement other than Filmstalker, Filmpeek and Film Junk? Wikipedia guidelines strongly discourage the use of blogs as references. (Ibaranoff24 12:28, 12 October 2007 (UTC))
Info Not Found In Article
editI'm watching the two movies on DVD as two separate movies. I didn't get to see the full experience at the theater. The article here lists all the various components of the original theater release, but it doesn't state the order in which all the pieces fit together. I was hoping that someone who knows could add that info here. Which feature was shown first in the theater, and which trailers were played in what order/location within the presentation. That info would be very interesting. — Bill W. (Talk) (Contrib) – 19 November 2024, 07:58 (UTC)
The article pretty much lists the order. It was Machete trailer, Planet Terror, Werewolf Women of the S.S. trailer, Don't trailer, Thanksgiving trailer, Death Proof. Anyway, it's probably not necessary to explicitly say the order. The Kentucky Fried Movie article doesn't go into that much detail. --YellowTapedR 07:27, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

Status of the Planet Terror and Death Proof articles
editI have cleaned up the articles for Planet Terror and Death Proof, deleted parts that were either unsourced or were not specific to each individual film, and have basically tried to rework each article into something respectful into each individual work and to try not to treat the films as a single work, as the article had previously done due to the fact that the articles were copied out of the Grindhouse article, and not properly. Basically, the articles are now a lot better looking and more specific to each individual film. As the "missing reel" title card only appeared in the US "double feature" version of Death Proof did not appear in the non-double feature version of that film, the "missing reels" info only appears in the Grindhouse and Planet Terror articles. The information about the fake trailers only appears in the Grindhouse article, as the separated version of Planet Terror only contains the Machete trailer, and Death Proof does not feature any trailers. I have also added development information from the Grindhouse article to the Planet Terror and Death Proof articles. (Ibaranoff24 (talk) 15:41, 2 March 2008 (UTC))
