"In appearance very like the Woodland Kingfisher but with a red rather than red and black bill and similar to the Brown-hooded Kingfisher, but the Brown-hooded lacks the chestnut belly."

As far as I can tell, the Woodland Kingfisher also lacks the chestnut belly; in fact, the Brown hooded has some reddish-brown feathers on its belly. This makes me wonder if the statement quoted above has actually got it round the wrong way. The Brown hooded has a red-base/black-tip beak, and the woodland has a red-top/black-bottom beak. By appearance I'd guess that grey headed is actually descended from the ancestor of Brown hooded more recently than the woodland, because the woodland has far more cyan colour on its upper back and none of the reddish-brown on its belly that the other two have, but I'd wait until the DNA evidence comes in before I could call myself sure. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.96.80.136 (talk) 12:22, 7 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
