"The area, with the addition of Ormesby, is designated by the ONS as the Eston and South Bank urban subdivision of the Teesside urban area, which according to the 2001 census had a population of 32,788". Due to new definitions and classifications in urban areas[1], the Eston & Southbank urban subdivision is now defunct. Urban areas are now referred to as Built-up Areas and their subdivisions. It now forms part of the Middlesbrough Built-up Area subdivision (or BUASD) of the Teesside Built-up Area[2].
